Job summary

ams OSRAM in Penang seeks an experienced semiconductor product engineer to manage the full product portfolio from development to mass production, focusing on yield, test processes and cost control.

You will act as the technical interface to internal teams and external customers, perform data-driven analysis, support RMA and failure analysis, drive process improvements, and ensure compliance with quality standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Physics, Opto-electronics or related technical field; Master’s degree is a plus.
• 2–3 years in semiconductor product engineering, yield engineering or testing (VCSEL or laser experience preferred).
• Strong knowledge of semiconductor lasers, manufacturing processes and VCSEL tech.
• Excellent written and verbal English communication; Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing knowledge.
• Experience in product qualifications, quality standards and failure analysis; cross-functional development processes.

Responsibilities

• Manage the entire product portfolio lifecycle, meeting performance, quality, and cost objectives.
• Serve as central contact for all product-related matters, coordinating across teams.
• Drive yield and test-process improvements to optimize costs and efficiency.
• Analyze characterization and test data to identify cost drivers and implement yield programs.
• Collaborate with development teams during design/testing reviews for smooth mass production transfer.
• Support QA with RMA handling and failure analysis.
• Act as technical interface for internal stakeholders and external customers.
• Ensure fabrication process changes comply with performance and reliability requirements.
• Monitor production feedback to ensure DFM with ongoing improvements.

Job description

• Serve as the central point of contact for all product-related matters, providing clear communication and coordination across teams.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on yield and test processes to optimize costs and enhance product efficiency.
• Conduct statistical analysis of characterization and test data to identify cost drivers and implement yield improvement programs.
• Collaborate closely with project teams during the development phase (e.g. design and test reviews) to ensure a seamless transition from development to mass production.
• Support the quality assurance team with RMA handling and failure analysis.
• Act as the technical interface for internal stakeholders and external customers, delivering expert guidance and support.
• Ensure that any fabrication process modifications comply with product performance and reliability requirements.
• Monitor production and feedback relevant issues to ensure DFM

Job Requirements

• Candidate must have at least a Bachelor's Degree in Physics, Opto-electronics, or a related technical field. Candidate with Master's Degree in the relevant field will have an added advantage.
• 2–3 years of experience in semiconductor product engineering, yield engineering, or testing (VCSEL or laser experience preferred).
• Solid understanding of semiconductor lasers, manufacturing processes, and applications (ideally in VCSEL technology).
• Strong analytical and fact-based decision-making skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Proficiency in Six Sigma problem-solving and Lean Manufacturing.
• Experience in product qualifications, quality standards, and failure analysis.
• Knowledge of product routings, workflows, and development processes.
• Project management experience and ability to work cross-functionally.
