Job summary

Qualifications

• Degree in Speech Therapy as required.
• Registered with the Malaysian Speech Therapy Association (MASTA).
• Valid annual practicing certificate where applicable.

Responsibilities

• Assess, diagnose, screen and treat speech and swallowing disorders in patients.
• Develop and provide effective treatment plans.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary team and family to set realistic goals.
• Observe swallowing difficulties and re-evaluate treatment accordingly.
• Provide verbal and nonverbal communication methods for patients with disorders.
• Develop modified means of communication with patients and families.
• Utilize resources to find solutions for communication disorders.
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation and records.
• Prepare detailed reports on patients’ condition and progress.
• Provide education, advice and support to patients, healthcare providers and family.
• Participate in continuous education and in-service meetings.
• Assist in establishing departmental policies and quality standards.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Summary:

Provide speech therapy services to patients with difficulties communicating or swallowing due to illness, injury, acquired disorders or congenital problems.

Duties and responsibilities:

• 1. To assess, diagnose, screen, and treat speech and swallowing disorders in patients.
• 2. To develop and provide effective treatment plans.
• 3. To work with multidisciplinary team and family to set realistic goals.
• 4. To observe swallowing difficulties and carry out effective treatment with continuous re-evaluation.
• 5. To provide a means of communication, verbal as well as nonverbal, for patients with communication disorders.
• 6. To work with patients and their family to develop modified means of communication.
• 7. To use available resources to find solutions for patients with communication disorders.
• 8. To maintain accurate clinical documentation and records.
• 9. To prepare detailed reports on patients’ condition and progress.
• 10. To provide education, advice and support to patients, healthcare providers and family members.
• 11. To participate in continuous educational programs and in service meetings.
• 12. Assist to establish and maintain departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance programs, safety environmental and infection control standards.
• 13. Perform other requested duties as assigned or requested.

Education and Requirements:

• 1. Degree in Speech Therapy.
• 2. Registered with the Malaysian Speech Therapy Association.
• 3. Valid annual practicing certificate where applicable.

Special Demands:

• 1. Good physical health. Heavy lifting, moving equipment and standing for long periods of time may occur.
• 2. Possess good interpersonal and communication skills.
