Job summary

Jobstreet Malaysia is seeking a Sous Chef to assist the Head Chef in daily kitchen operations, food preparation, cooking, portioning and plating in a busy restaurant environment.

You will supervise, train and guide kitchen staff, ensure consistent quality and taste, and coordinate with the front-of-house team during service. Good leadership and the ability to work under pressure are essential, with experience in a Japanese restaurant considered an advantage.

Qualifications

• At least 1 year+ of experience as a Sous Chef or in a similar senior kitchen position.
• Strong knowledge of kitchen operations, food preparation and hygiene standards.
• Good leadership and team management skills.
• Able to work under pressure in a fast-paced restaurant environment.
• Responsible, disciplined and committed to maintaining high food quality.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• Willing to work shifts, weekends and public holidays when required.
• Experience working in a Japanese restaurant is an advantage.
• Chinese and English language skills are an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Head Chef in managing daily kitchen operations and service.
• Monitor and handle food preparation, cooking, portioning and plating.
• Ensure kitchen operations run smoothly during busy service periods.
• Maintain consistent food quality, taste, presentation and portion control.
• Ensure all food is prepared according to established recipes and standards.
• Monitor the freshness and quality of ingredients, especially seafood and other fresh products.
• Supervise, train and guide kitchen staff.
• Allocate daily kitchen duties and ensure tasks are completed efficiently.
• Coordinate closely with the Head Chef and front-of-house team during service.
• Ensure orders are prepared accurately and served within the expected timeframe.
