Job summary

KVC, a Sonepar company, is seeking a Solutions Architect – BESS, Solar in Malaysia to design and integrate battery energy storage systems that store renewable energy and provide power when needed. You will bridge technical needs with business goals across electrical, software, and mechanical domains.

Key responsibilities include peak shaving strategy, bankable value cases, and end-to-end system design, with emphasis on EMS integration, grid interconnection, and hybrid solar applications.

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical, Electronics or Mechanical Engineering.
• Excellent business acumen, networking, and interpersonal skills.
• Proactive, fast learner; able to work independently as well as a team.
• Fluent in English and Malay; Mandarin a strong advantage.
• Must own a vehicle and be willing to travel.
• Experience in solar PV and battery storage system design, grid interconnection standards.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities; proficient in design and modeling tools.

Responsibilities

• Peak Demand Management & Tariff Optimisation: design dispatch/control strategy for peak shaving, load shifting, and ToU optimisation.
• Build Sound Business Proposals: translate technical solution into a bankable value case with ROI, risk, and savings analysis.
• System Design: create the overall BESS architecture, size the system, select components, and ensure end-to-end integration.
• Technical Integration: integrate BESS with customer electrical network (LV/MV/HV), grid interconnection, and renewables.
• Performance Optimisation: maximise efficiency, scalability, lifecycle performance, and safety.

Role Description:

The Solutions Architect – BESS, Solar is a full-time role. You will be tasked to design and integrate battery systems to store renewable energy, and providing power when needed, bridging technical needs with business goals by understanding electrical, software, and mechanical aspects for efficient, scalable, and cost-effective energy storage solutions.

Core Responsibilities:

• Peak Demand Management & Tariff Optimisation:Design dispatch/control strategy forpeak shaving (max demand reduction), load shifting/ToU optimisation, demand caps, and renewable smoothing – aligned to customer operating profile and constraints.
• Build Sound Business Proposals:Translate technical solution into abankable value case(load analysis, savings model, ROI/payback assumptions, sensitivity analysis, risk register) to prove outcomes post-commissioning.
• System Design:Create the overall BESS architecture, size the system, select components (battery, PCS/inverter, transformer, protection, HVAC/fire safety, metering/communications) and ensure end-to-end integration readiness.
• Technical Integration:Integrate BESS with customer electrical network (LV/MV/HV), grid interconnection, and renewables (solar/hybrid), including EMS and monitoring platforms.
• Performance Optimisation:Maximise efficiency, scalability, system availability, and lifecycle performance while managing degradation, warranty limits, safety constraints, and operating modes (grid-tied, backup, hybrid).

Key Skills & Knowledge:

• Energy Storage Technology:Strong understanding of battery fundamentals (chemistry, safety, thermal behaviour, degradation, warranty, lifecycle performance) and BESS safety/operational best practices.
• Electrical Engineering & Grid Integration:Competent in AC/DC systems, protection concepts, power electronics, metering, and LV/MV/HV integration considerations for C&I/utility contexts.
• Software / Controls:Knowledge of EMS integration, communications, and control philosophy for demand limiting, SOC management, PV+BESS coordination, constraints handling, and fail-safe operation.
• Renewable & Hybrid Systems:Familiarity with solar/ Genset integration, self-consumption optimisation, export control, curtailment mitigation, and renewable firming/smoothing use cases.
• Commercial & Business Acumen:Ability to understand market dynamics, regulations, and project economics.

Qualifications:
