Job summary

SOLS Energy Sdn Bhd in Kuala Lumpur seeks a Director of Engineering to lead the entire engineering function, setting standards and owning technical risk across PV and BESS lifecycle from feasibility to O&M.

You will govern design sign-off, ensure MS 1837, IEC, ST, SEDA, and TNB compliance, and drive capability development while mentoring a multi-disciplinary team.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Electrical, Electronic, or Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (Ir.) or Professional Technologist (Ts.).
  • SEDA GCPV certified Qualified Person with CIDB Green Card and valid driving licence.

Job description

The Director of Engineering leads SOLS Energy's entire engineering function and is the final technical authority across the full lifecycle of every solar PV and BESS system, from feasibility and design through construction, commissioning, and long-term performance. The role sets engineering standards, governs design sign-off, develops the team, and owns technical risk, regulatory compliance, and new capability development.

  • Define and continuously improve SOLS Energy's technical specifications, design rules, and SOPs for PV and BESS systems.
  • Ensure all engineering output complies with MS 1837, IEC standards, ST, SEDA, and TNB requirements.
  • Hold final design authority, reviewing and approving all designs before release to procurement, construction, or the client.
  • Lead engineering across the full project lifecycle through T&C, back-feed, IOD, and COD for utility-scale and C&I projects.
  • Lead the technical and commercial content of tenders and proposals, and own authority submissions across TNB, ST, SEDA, and CIDB.
  • Approve key equipment and lead technical due diligence and benchmarking of suppliers, OEMs, and technologies.
  • Lead and develop the engineering team through the Senior Technical Manager and section leads, including coaching and succession planning.
  • Oversee asset and fleet performance, manage engineering budgets, and flag technical risks with commercial impact.
  • Champion QA/QC, HSE, and safety, and lead new capability development across BESS, EV charging, and monitoring platforms.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Electronic, or Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Registered with the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) as a Professional Engineer (Ir.) and/or with MBOT as a Professional Technologist (Ts.).
  • SEDA GCPV (Grid-Connected Photovoltaic) certified Qualified Person, with a CIDB Green Card and a valid Class D driving licence.
  • Minimum 7 years' progressive experience in solar PV or renewable energy spanning design, EPC delivery, and O&M, with at least 3 years in an engineering leadership role.
  • Demonstrated experience across the full solar lifecycle and across residential, C&I, and large-scale solar, with BESS exposure.
  • Proven ability to set technical standards and give final design approval on PV systems, cable sizing, protection coordination, structural designs, and BOMs.
  • Strong working proficiency in PVsyst, Helioscope, and AutoCAD, with familiarity with SCADA and monitoring platforms.
  • Sound command of MS 1837, ST, SEDA, TNB interconnection requirements, and IEC standards.
  • Track record leading multi-disciplinary teams and managing external consultants, contractors, and suppliers.
