Job summary

Super Newton Sdn Bhd (Newton Education) in Melaka is seeking a Software Engineer to own and evolve our in-house education management system built with Next.js, TypeScript and PostgreSQL. The role requires hands-on development, code maintenance and feature expansion in a well-structured AI-assisted codebase.

You’ll collaborate directly with the founder to set architecture and priorities, review and refine AI-generated code, translate staff needs into practical features, and ensure the system is

Responsibilities

Job Title: Software Engineer (Next.js / TypeScript) – In-House Systems

About Us
Newton Education is a growing multi-branch tuition centre in Melaka. We're building our own education management system in-house, covering student records, scheduling, billing and learning tools across our branches. The core is already running in production. Now we need an engineer to own it.

About the Role
This is not a "build from a template" job. You'll take over a well-structured, AI-assisted codebase and be responsible for maintaining, improving and extending it. You'll work directly with the founder, who sets the architecture and priorities.

We use AI coding tools (Claude) heavily. We're looking for someone who uses AI as a power tool, not a crutch: someone who can read the code, question the output, and give AI precise instructions to get the right result.

What You'll Do

Maintain and extend our system built on Next.js, TypeScript and PostgreSQL

Review, test and fix code, including AI-generated code

Translate staff and management requirements into working features

Write clear context and instructions for AI tools to work accurately on a large codebase

Keep the system stable, secure and well-documented

Must Have

Next.js (App Router) and TypeScript (strict mode)

Git and code review habits

Ability to read and understand code you didn't write

Fluent in English and Mandarin (to work with Mandarin-speaking staff and bilingual system content)

Good to Have

Prisma ORM

Redis / background job queues

Docker and Linux server basics

Automated testing (Vitest, Playwright)

Experience with modular or domain-driven architecture
