YourGP in Malaysia is hiring a software engineer on a 1-year contract (hybrid, Damansara) to build production web apps, maintain cloud infrastructure, and use AI coding tools daily. You will work across live apps and prototypes, fix bugs, and help standardize processes.
Strong OO language skills, SQL, API design, and cloud experience are required; weekly on-site presence is expected. You will join a small team delivering tangible products used by real users, with direct feedback from end users
1-year contract, with extension subject to performance and business needs
Hybrid setting, with one day per week on site at our office in or near One Utama, Damansara, plus company events in person
Required to put in extra hours on the occasional weekend for product releases and maintenance
We're growing quickly and need our next engineer.
We're looking for someone who builds solid, production-ready software and uses AI tools to move faster without cutting corners. The specific language matters less to us than whether you understand what the code is doing and can tell when it's wrong.
You’ll work across our live apps and prototypes: building features, fixing bugs, keeping our cloud infrastructure healthy, and helping us become a properly documented, well-run engineering team.
This is a small team. What you build gets used, and you'll hear directly from the people using it.
What you'll be doing
Building features from requirement through to release
Using AI coding tools (Claude, Cursor, or similar) daily, and reviewing everything they produce for correctness, security, and fit with the rest of the system
Troubleshooting down to the actual root cause and fixing it
Handling level one and two bug fixes and routine maintenance across our products
Integrating with third-party systems and APIs
Supporting our cloud infrastructure and hosting, and helping standardise and document it
Testing what you build before it reaches users
Setting up and maintaining CI/CD so what you build gets tested and deployed properly
Breaking bigger features into smaller technical pieces
Suggesting improvements to the code and how we work — we run on Kaizen, so steady small improvements, not a rewrite every few years
You'll be a great fit if you...
Have 4+ years building and maintaining production web applications — applications with real users, not only greenfield projects
Are strong in at least one typed, object-oriented language, and can pick up another quickly. We care about the fundamentals, not which language you learned them in.
Understand data modelling and can write and reason about SQL against a relational database
Know how HTTP APIs work — designing them, consuming them, and debugging them when a third party's behaviour doesn't match its documentation
Understand system design well enough to decide where code should go, not just plug it in
Have real hands‑on experience with a cloud platform (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and are comfortable owning infrastructure as well as application code
Are comfortable with version control, pull request review, and automated testing as everyday habits
Use AI coding tools daily and can tell a good suggestion from a bad one — and can read code you didn't write, judge it, and say why it's wrong
Can take a requirement and work out how to build it without much handholding
Care about handling sensitive data correctly
Communicate clearly and are comfortable working with an Australian team across a two‑to‑three-hour time difference
Are willing to be on site in Damansara at least once a week
Bonus, but not required:
Experience in healthcare or another high-volume operational environment
Experience supporting a product through its early, still-being-shaped stage
Experience in a large multinational software development organisation
We'll tell you exactly what we build on when we speak. If you're strong on the fundamentals above, picking up our stack is not the hard part.
Why this role matters
We're building many products at once and growing. This role helps us:
Keep tools reliable while we take it to more customers
Get ideas off the ground, from drawing board to onboarding through to support
Build infrastructure that's consistent and documented, not held together by memory
Who you'll be working with
You’ll work closely with our director of innovation, product manager and senior software engineer.
What we offer
Coaches who take your development seriously. Weekly check‑ins and a monthly one‑to‑one are standard.
A feedback‑rich team. You’ll know where you stand, and your view genuinely matters
A culture built on Care, Excellence, and Kaizen
Real scope to grow beyond the job title, since we’re small and still building.
A dynamic start‑up environment where failing and big risks are encouraged.
