Job summary

FC Mobile invites a Software Engineer Intern to join the FC Mobile team in Kuala Lumpur. You will tackle real-world challenges using JavaScript/TypeScript, React.js, Node.js, and HTML/CSS, delivering a tangible project with daily mentorship from senior engineers. The 3-month-19-day program starts in January 2027.

You will gain hands-on experience with internal tools or live-ops features, learn performance tuning, and present your progress to the team at the end of the internship.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, IT, or a related technical field.
• Solid grasp of core programming logic, data structures, and basic algorithmic thinking learned through university coursework.
• Foundational knowledge of web development (HTML, CSS, and basic JavaScript).
• Strong desire to understand how things work; enjoys tackling logical puzzles and debugging code.
• Willing to communicate daily with their mentor to explain understanding and blockers.

Responsibilities

• Write, test, and maintain code for internal tools or web views under mentor guidance.
• Learn to use browser tools to spot bottlenecks and optimize code for mobile devices.
• Write robust code that handles errors, delays, and edge cases beyond the happy path.
• Work daily with a dedicated Senior mentor to break down tasks and align on execution.
• Participate in code reviews and present your project journey to the engineering team.

About the Role

The internship is with the FC Mobile team, which powers the world’s most popular mobile football experience. As a Software Engineer Intern, the role involves tackling real-world software engineering challenges focused on performance, logic, and system architecture, going beyond standard university coursework. The intern will take ownership of building a tangible, high-impact project, such as an internal developer tool or a live-ops web feature, with daily mentorship from senior engineers. The tech stack focus is JavaScript/TypeScript, React.js, Node.js, and HTML/CSS, and the internship runs for 3 months and 19 days starting in January 2027.

Key Responsibilities

• Write, test, and maintain code for internal tools or web views, applying best practices learned from their mentor.
• Gain hands‑on exposure to real-world performance by learning to use browser tools to spot bottlenecks and optimise code for mobile devices.
• Practice thinking beyond the 'happy path' by learning to write code that safely handles errors, delays, and edge cases.
• Work in close, daily alignment with their dedicated Senior mentor to break down technical tasks, ask questions, and align on execution.
• Actively participate in code reviews, submit their code for feedback, and learn how to adapt their work to meet professional team standards.
• Conclude the internship by presenting their project journey to the engineering team, highlighting the technical challenges faced and key learnings.

Required Experience & Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, IT, or a related technical field.
• Solid grasp of core programming logic, data structures, and basic algorithmic thinking learned through university coursework.
• Foundational knowledge of web development (HTML, CSS, and basic JavaScript).
• Strong desire to figure out how things work; enjoys breaking down logical puzzles and troubleshooting when code breaks.
• Must be willing to communicate daily with their mentor, clearly explaining what they understand and where they are stuck.

Preferred Skills

• Prior academic or personal project experience using React, Node.js, or TypeScript.
• An interest in how UI comes to life, including basic CSS transitions or working with HTML Canvas.
• Basic familiarity (or a strong willingness to learn) browser developer tools (like Chrome DevTools) for debugging.
