Job summary

Grab is seeking a Software Engineer to join the Cloud Platform team in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia. This onsite 24-month contract role develops and maintains backend services and automation that enable engineers to provision and manage cloud resources safely.

You’ll work with Cloud Infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines and AI-assisted tooling with appropriate safeguards. Responsibilities include API design, infrastructure-as-code (Terraform), containerised apps and on-call participation.

Qualifications

• 1+ years of professional software development experience.
• Experience building and testing production backend services.
• Experience with containers, Git, CI/CD and safe deployment practices.

We also apply AI-assisted approaches where they can improve infrastructure operations without compromising security or human oversight.

Get to Know the Role

We're looking for a Software Engineer to join Grab's Cloud Platform team in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia. You'll build and maintain the services and automation that help engineering teams provision, access and manage cloud resources safely. Working with Cloud Infrastructure and partner teams, you'll turn manual processes into reliable self-service workflows, improve production systems and explore AI-assisted tools with appropriate safeguards and human oversight.

This is a fully onsite role at our office in Petaling Jaya and will report to the Engineering Manager

This is a contract role for 24 months.

The Critical Tasks You Will Perform

• You will develop and maintain backend services and APIs for cloud-resource access, connectivity and lifecycle management.
• You will automate resource provisioning, configuration and decommissioning, with appropriate validation, access controls and failure handling.
• You will build scalable solutions on cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure using infrastructure-as-code practices.
• You will develop and operate containerised applications, and improve CI/CD pipelines for safe, repeatable deployments.
• You will write maintainable code and automated tests; contribute to system design and code reviews.
• Improve service observability and performance using logs, metrics and alerts.
• You will investigate production issues, participate in on-call duties and deliver lasting fixes.
• Contribute to AI-assisted infrastructure workflows, testing integrations and verifying outputs before operational use.

What Essential Skills You Will Need

• You have 1+ years of professional software development experience, including building and testing production backend services in Go, Python or a comparable language.
• You have experience designing APIs and applying sound software design, data structure and testing practices.
• You have experience with containers, Git, CI/CD pipelines and safe deployment practices.
• Ability to build reliable automation that handles validation, retries, partial failures and appropriate access controls.
• Experience with, or a sound understanding of, AI-assisted workflows, including tool integration, safeguards and evaluation. You can assess model limitations and verify outputs before use.
• Ability to investigate production issues using logs, metrics and alerts, and communicate findings with other engineers.
• Preferred: Working knowledge of AWS or Azure, cloud networking, identity and access management, and infrastructure as code such as Terraform.
• Preferred: Experience operating services on Kubernetes.
• Preferred: Familiarity with relational or non-relational databases where needed by backend services.
• Preferred: Experience building self-service infrastructure tools or improving cloud-resource efficiency.
