Job summary

Grab is seeking a Senior Infrastructure Engineer to own platform engineering initiatives end to end and work onsite in Petaling Jaya. You will design and run infrastructure independently, shaping architecture and mentoring engineers across security, SRE, and product teams.

You will write code for APIs, services, and automation in Go or Python, with tests and code reviews to ensure reliability and security. This is an infrastructure role with a strong platform focus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience in a related field.
• 5+ years hands-on experience in platform engineering, infrastructure, or DevOps.
• Comfortable working in a geographically distributed team.

Responsibilities

• Kubernetes at scale: operate and evolve large EKS clusters for CI workloads and internal tools.
• AWS and Infrastructure as Code: design and run production systems on AWS, Terraform modules.
• CI/CD ownership: architect and maintain GitLab CI and self-hosted runners.
• Cloud automation: automate IAM, secrets, monitoring, and guardrails.
• AI agent infrastructure: build platform for AI coding agents in isolated environments.
• Coding: develop internal services using Go or Python with tests and reviews.
• Linux fundamentals: strong systems administration and troubleshooting.
• Security and reliability: collaborate with security/SRE to embed guardrails.
• Lead and mentor: drive technical reviews and coach junior engineers.

Get to Know the Role

We are looking for a Senior Infrastructure Engineer to own platform engineering initiatives end to end. You will report to the Engineering Manager and work onsite in Petaling Jaya. You will design and run infrastructure independently, shape architecture, mentor engineers, and work directly with security, SRE, and product engineering teams.

This is an infrastructure role first. But we build platforms, not just pipelines, so you will write code: APIs, services, controllers, CLIs, and automation that other engineers depend on, with tests and code review to match.

The Critical Tasks You Will Perform

• Kubernetes at scale. Operate and evolve large EKS clusters running CI workloads, ephemeral build and agent environments, and internal tools, including autoscaling, node lifecycle, networking, multi-tenancy, and cost.
• AWS and Infrastructure as Code. Design and run production systems on AWS. Advanced Terraform, including reusable modules across large multi-account estates.
• CI/CD ownership. Architect and maintain GitLab CI and self-hosted runners for fast, reliable, and secure delivery.
• Cloud automation. Automate account lifecycle, IAM, secrets, monitoring and logging, and policy guardrails.
• AI agent infrastructure. Build and scale the platform that runs AI coding agents in isolated, ephemerel environments: sandboxing, resource limits, observability, access control.
• Coding. Build internal services, APIs, and tooling in Go or Python, with tests and code review.
• Linux fundamentals. Strong systems administration, performance troubleshooting, and container internals.
• Security and reliability. Partner with security and SRE to embed guardrails into the platform.
• Lead and mentor. Drive technical reviews, set standards, coach junior engineers.
• Product mindset and stakeholders. Translate requirements from product, security, and infra teams into shipped solutions. Focus on developer experience, adoption, and measurable impact. Communicate trade-offs clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.

What Essential Skills You Will Need

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of hands-on experience in platform engineering, infrastructure, or DevOps, with a track record of independently delivering complex projects.
• Comfortable working in a geographically distributed team.

Nice to Have

• Running AI coding agents or LLM-backed tooling in production (sandboxing, model gateways, cost and token controls).
• Kubernetes operators or controllers you have written yourself.
• Service mesh, gVisor, Firecracker, or other workload isolation tech.
• Sourcegraph, Spinnaker, Ansible, or Jenkins.
• Observability stack experience (Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, Datadog).
