Cantilever Sdn Bhd is seeking a proactive Site Safety Officer (SHO) to join our Penang project team. You will ensure safety standards are implemented across the site, coordinate with DOSH/JKKP, and support the Safety & Health Management System while managing PPE, permits, and high-risk activities.

The role requires at least 3 years in construction, familiarity with ISO 45001/14001 is a plus, and willingness to be stationed at the Penang project site.

Qualifications

• Valid Safety and Health Officer (SHO) registration with DOSH/JKKP.
• Minimum 3 years of relevant construction experience.
• Experience in infrastructure or civil projects preferred.
• Rail/LRT projects, bridges, viaducts, earthworks or major civil works is a plus.
• Knowledge of ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 is advantageous.
• Able to conduct site inspections, safety audits and toolbox briefings.

Responsabilités

• Monitor daily site activities and ensure compliance with occupational safety and health requirements.
• Ensure workers wear PPE and hold valid CIDB Green Cards.
• Verify permits, licences and documentation for machinery and drivers on site.
• Monitor high-risk activities such as deep excavation, work at height, lifting operations.
• Conduct regular site safety inspections, audits and safety briefings.
• Identify hazards and recommend corrective actions.
• Liaise with DOSH/JKKP on registrations and inspections.
• Attend Client Safety Meetings and coordinate with project team and subcontractors.
• Manage emergencies, accidents and near-miss reporting and investigations.
• Compile and maintain workers' work permits and safety documentation.
• Assist in implementing the project's Safety & Health Management System.
• Support environmental management activities including waste management and erosion control.

We are looking for a proactive and committed Site Safety Officer (SHO) to join our project team in Penang.

This is an excellent opportunity for a safety professional who wants to gain hands-on experience in a major civil and infrastructure project, work closely with project management and industry professionals, and take an active role in maintaining a safe and efficient construction site.

Your Role

As a Site Safety Officer, you will be responsible for ensuring that safety standards are effectively implemented and maintained throughout the project.

Your key responsibilities include:

Monitor daily site activities and ensure compliance with occupational safety and health requirements.

Ensure all workers and site personnel use the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and hold valid CIDB Green Cards.

Verify that machinery, equipment, and drivers operating on site have valid permits, licences, and required documentation.

Monitor high-risk activities, including deep excavation, working at height, lifting operations, and other critical construction activities.

Conduct regular site safety inspections, audits, toolbox meetings, and safety briefings.

Identify potential hazards and recommend appropriate corrective and preventive actions.

Liaise with DOSH/JKKP on project registration, statutory requirements, inspections, and other safety-related matters.

Attend Client Safety Meetings and coordinate safety matters with the project team, consultants, subcontractors, and workers.

Manage and coordinate site emergency, accident, incident, and near-miss matters, including reporting and investigation.

Compile and maintain workers' work permits and safety documentation.

Assist in implementing and continuously improving the project's Safety & Health Management System.

Support environmental management activities, including waste management, pollution prevention, and erosion and sediment control.

What We're Looking For

Valid Safety and Health Officer (SHO) registration with DOSH/JKKP.

Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in the construction industry.

Experience in infrastructure or civil engineering projects is preferred.

Candidates with experience in rail/LRT projects, bridges, viaducts, earthworks, roadworks, or other major civil works will have an added advantage.

Good understanding of OSH legislation, HIRARC, risk assessment, incident investigation, and construction safety requirements.

Able to independently conduct site inspections, safety audits, toolbox briefings, and safety programmes.

Knowledge of ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 will be an advantage.

Experience in environmental management and site environmental compliance will be an added advantage.

Strong leadership, communication, coordination, and reporting skills.

Able to work effectively with project management teams, consultants, subcontractors, and site personnel.

Responsible, proactive, and willing to take ownership of site safety matters.

Willing to be stationed at the assigned project site in Penang.
