The Site Engineer supervises day-to-day construction activities to ensure works are carried out according to approved drawings, specifications, quality standards, safety requirements and project schedules. The role coordinates contractors, monitors progress, resolves routine site and technical issues, and maintains accurate site records.

Site Supervision

Oversee daily on‑site construction work and ensure adherence to approved drawings and specifications. Verify that subcontractors and workers carry out work according to approved construction methodology and schedule. Supervise assigned work areas, trades or project sections with limited day‑to‑day guidance. Confirm that required drawings, materials, manpower, equipment and access are available before work begins. Monitor work sequencing and ensure preceding works are completed before subsequent activities commence. Ensure completed works are properly protected and that site areas are maintained in an orderly condition. Report significant site constraints or non‑compliance promptly.

Technical Interpretation and Support

Read and interpret construction drawings, specifications and relevant technical details. Ensure the latest approved drawings and documents are used at the work location. Identify obvious drawing discrepancies, missing information, clashes or constructability concerns. Raise technical queries to the Project Engineer or relevant project team member. Communicate approved technical requirements and clarifications to contractors and site personnel. Assist in checking materials, dimensions, levels and construction details against approved requirements. Support implementation of consultant instructions and approved design changes.

Contractor Coordination

Coordinate site activities with main contractors, subcontractors and suppliers to avoid conflicts and ensure smooth workflow. Communicate work priorities and resolve minor on‑site issues promptly. Coordinate routine work interfaces between different trades and work areas. Monitor contractor manpower, equipment and material readiness against planned activities. Follow up on contractor commitments, corrective actions and outstanding works. Escalate recurring contractor performance issues to the Project Engineer or Project Implementation Manager. Participate in daily briefings and site coordination meetings where required.

Progress Monitoring

Track and report daily site progress and identify potential delays or disruptions. Provide feedback to the Project Engineer or Project Implementation Manager for corrective action planning. Compare actual site progress against short‑term work schedules and assigned milestones. Maintain photographic records and quantitative information on completed and outstanding works. Identify resource shortages, access constraints, incomplete preceding works or technical issues affecting progress. Recommend practical actions for routine site delays. Assist in verifying completed works and physical progress to support contractor claims and project reporting.

Quality Assurance

Conduct checks to ensure workmanship and materials meet required standards. Inspect work against approved drawings, specifications, samples and quality requirements. Participate in inspection requests, joint inspections and quality checkpoints. Identify defects, incomplete work and non‑compliance and follow up on rectification. Maintain quality inspection records, checklists and photographic evidence. Support testing and verification of completed works. Assist in pre‑handover, pre‑VP and defect‑management activities. Report recurring quality issues and suggest preventive actions.

Health, Safety and Environmental Compliance

Ensure safety protocols are strictly followed and report non‑compliance or incidents immediately. Monitor site activities for unsafe acts, unsafe conditions and environmental concerns. Require corrective action for routine safety non‑compliance within established procedures. Participate in safety inspections, toolbox meetings and site briefings. Work with HSE personnel and contractor supervisors to improve compliance. Stop and report work involving immediate danger, in accordance with site procedures. Ensure assigned work areas comply with site safety, housekeeping and access requirements.

Site Records and Reporting

Maintain accurate site records, including inspection checklists, delivery logs and daily reports. Assist in preparing documentation for progress claims, audits and project reporting. Record manpower, equipment, materials, work progress, defects and outstanding actions. Maintain site photographs and evidence of completed or non‑compliant works. Update issue logs, inspection records and rectification status using approved systems. Prepare concise and factual site updates for the Project Engineer or Project Implementation Manager. Ensure records are complete, accurate and submitted within required timelines.

Material and Workmanship Verification

Check delivered materials against approved specifications, samples and delivery documents. Inspect material storage and protection to prevent damage, deterioration or misuse. Verify that materials installed at site are appropriate for the approved work. Report damaged, incorrect or non‑compliant materials. Check workmanship at key construction stages before subsequent work proceeds. Coordinate routine material inspections and testing with contractors and consultants.

Routine Problem‑Solving and Escalation

Resolve routine site coordination, workmanship and sequencing issues within established procedures. Gather relevant facts, drawings, photographs and site information before raising technical matters. Distinguish between routine operational matters and issues requiring technical or managerial escalation. Escalate complex design, contractual, commercial or high‑risk matters to the Project Engineer or relevant manager. Follow up on approved solutions and corrective actions until closure. Maintain records of issues, decisions and actions taken.

Collaboration and Team Support

Work closely with Project Engineers, Site Supervisors, Senior Site Supervisors, consultants and contractors. Provide clear instructions and technical clarification within the assigned scope. Share site observations and emerging risks during coordination meetings. Support junior site personnel in understanding drawings, inspection requirements and project procedures. Contribute lessons learned and practical suggestions for improving site execution. Maintain professional working relationships while ensuring accountability for site requirements.

Qualifications & Experience

• Qualifications– Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline.
• Familiarity with Malaysian construction safety and site‑management standards. Relevant construction, safety or quality certification is an advantage.
• Experience– Minimum of 0 to 2 years of on‑site supervision experience in construction projects.
• Experience– Experience in day‑to‑day coordination of subcontractors, materials and site inspections, especially in high‑rise or large‑scale developments.
