Job summary

ABB in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia, is seeking a full-time on-site Service Engineer to execute field service tasks with low to medium complexity. You will plan and perform work with a first-time-right approach, identify improvements for customers, and ensure the availability of materials and equipment.

The role requires a strong troubleshooting background and hands-on experience with analytical instrumentation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical field.
• 3–5 years in field service, installation and maintenance of analytical/process instrumentation systems.
• Experience supervising subcontractors and managing site operations.
• Customer-facing technical support and troubleshooting experience.
• Documentation and data analysis skills; familiarity with ABB analyzers.

Your role and responsibilities

In this role, you will have the opportunity to execute service work with low to medium complexity as per work instructions and in accordance with ABB standard processes, quality standards, and safety guidelines. Each day, you will plan and execute work on a first-time right approach with customers. You will also showcase your expertise by displaying a clear understanding of sense of urgency and care in your own area of responsibility.

The work model for the role is:

You will be mainly accountable for:

• Working with the customer (while on-site) to identify opportunities to improve the customer’s operations and eliminate pain points.
• Performing field service tasks, identifying technical issues, and performing analysis through remote or on-site activity in service categories and products.
• Preparing material lists needed for service activity and ensuring that all materials, parts, and equipment are available and of appropriate quality for service activities.
• Troubleshooting equipment/process failures, requesting proactive corrective actions, and making recommendations to avoid such issues in the future.

Position is based at Petaling Jaya, Malaysia.

Qualifications for the role

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical field with minimum 3-5 years in field service, installation, and maintenance of analytical/process instrumentation systems.
• Proven experience supervising subcontractors and managing site operations and experience with customer-facing technical support and troubleshooting.
• Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic capabilities for analytical equipment.
• Basic understanding of sampling systems and process instrumentation principles.
• Proficiency in documentation, technical reporting, and data analysis.
• Familiarity with ABB analyzer product lines and functionality.
• Ability to communicate technical information clearly and negotiate effectively with clients and contractors and capability to resolve complex technical issues independently.
• Meticulous attention to maintaining accurate records and following procedures.
