Job summary

UNIKL BMI invites applications for a Senior Technician in the Communication Technology Section. The role focuses on preventive maintenance, testing, and calibration of laboratory equipment, plus supporting lecturers and students during practical sessions.

The successful candidate will have a Diploma or Bachelors in Telecommunication Engineering, at least four years of experience, and strong problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform scheduled preventive maintenance, calibration, and testing of laboratory equipment.

• Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance for efficient lab operation.
• Monitor and maintain safety and functionality of equipment, systems and facilities.

• Record and update test results, maintenance logs, and related docs.
• Assist in customer satisfaction surveys and quality initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with safety procedures and policies.

KEY ROLES :

• Perform scheduled preventive maintenance, calibration, and testing of laboratory equipment to ensure optimal performance.
• Carry out minor repairs and replace faulty equipment, components, or parts as required.
• Prepare laboratory equipment, instruments, tools, and materials prior to practical sessions.
• Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance to ensure laboratories operate efficiently and safely.
• Monitor and maintain the cleanliness, safety, security, and functionality of laboratory equipment, instruments, computer systems, software, and facilities.
• Provide technical support and assistance to lecturers and students during laboratory sessions and experimental activities.
• Perform laboratory testing, inspections, and evaluations as required, and provide observations and recommendations for improvement.
• Record, maintain, and update laboratory test results, maintenance records, and related documentation accurately.
• Assist in conducting and compiling customer satisfaction surveys and other quality improvement initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with laboratory safety procedures, institutional policies, and operational standards.
• Support inventory management, including monitoring laboratory equipment, tools, consumables, and spare parts.
• Participate in institutional programmes, departmental activities, meetings, and other assignments as directed by the Head of Department or immediate supervisor.
• Perform any other duties and responsibilities assigned in support of the University's operational requirements.
