Job summary

Norlan Petroleum Sdn Bhd is seeking an experienced Offshore Engineering professional to provide technical support for subsea projects in Malaysia. You will coordinate with EPCI contractors, vessel operators and vendors, ensuring design deliverables meet project requirements throughout concept, FEED, detailed design, and offshore execution phases.

The role requires a bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering field and at least 5 years of offshore oil & gas experience, with strong documentation

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Subsea, Marine, Petroleum or related engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years of engineering experience in offshore oil & gas with subsea exposure.
  • Experience interfacing with EPCI contractors, vessel operators and vendors.
  • Proficiency with industry codes (API, DNV, ISO) for subsea engineering.
  • Familiarity with standard project documentation tools.

Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day engineering support across the project lifecycle.
  • Review and coordinate deliverables from contractors and vendors.
  • Support TQs, change requests and deviation/waiver processes.
  • Coordinate with discipline leads to resolve interfaces.
  • Develop execution plans, WBS, and offshore schedules.
  • Prepare readiness reviews, method statements and risk assessments.
  • Track progress against schedule and escalate delays.

1. Engineering Support & Technical Coordination
  • Provide day-to-day engineering support to the project team across the project lifecycle, from concept and FEED through detailed design, fabrication, offshore installation, and close-out.
  • Review and coordinate technical deliverables (drawings, specifications, procedures, calculations) produced by engineering contractors and vendors, flagging gaps or non-conformances.
  • Support technical queries (TQs), engineering change requests, and deviation/waiver processes, ensuring timely resolution and proper documentation.
  • Liaise with engineering discipline leads (structural, materials, pipeline, controls, ROV) to resolve interface issues across the project scope.
2. Project Planning & Execution Support
  • Support the Project Manager in developing execution plans, work breakdown structures, and offshore campaign schedules.
  • Assist in preparing readiness reviews, method statements, and risk assessments ahead of offshore mobilization.
  • Track progress of engineering and procurement deliverables against the project schedule, escalating delays or risks to the Project Manager.
  • Contribute to project risk registers, identifying technical risks and supporting mitigation planning.
  • Act as a technical point of contact for EPCI, IRM, and equipment vendor contractors on assigned work packages.
  • Review contractor engineering submissions, procedures, and as-built documentation for technical accuracy and compliance with project specifications.
  • Support technical evaluation of tenders and bids during procurement of subsea equipment and services.
  • Participate in factory acceptance testing (FAT), pre-mobilization inspections, and equipment witnessing as required.
4. Documentation & Reporting
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date project engineering documentation, registers, and technical files in accordance with company document control procedures.
  • Prepare technical reports, progress updates, and engineering summaries for internal and client stakeholders.
  • Support close-out reporting, including compilation of as-built documentation and lessons learned.
5. HSE & Quality Assurance
  • Ensure engineering deliverables and technical solutions comply with applicable codes, standards, and NPSB/Norlan Petroleum HSE and quality requirements.
  • Participate in HAZID/HAZOP, job hazard analyses, and other formal risk review processes as a technical contributor.
  • Support quality assurance and quality control activities, including non-conformance reporting and technical audits.
6. Offshore Support
  • Provide onshore or offshore engineering support during campaign execution, troubleshooting technical issues that arise during subsea operations.
  • Participate in offshore site visits, vessel mobilisations, and post-campaign reviews as required by project needs.
7. Cost & Schedule Tracking
  • Support cost tracking and variation assessment for assigned work packages, providing technical input to change management processes.
  • Assist in monitoring schedule performance and identifying opportunities to improve engineering productivity and project delivery efficiency.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Subsea, Marine, Petroleum, or a related Engineering discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years of engineering experience in the offshore oil & gas industry, with direct exposure to subsea projects, IRM, or EPCI works.
  • Working familiarity with subsea equipment and systems, including manifolds, trees, umbilical’s, flowlines, risers, and subsea control systems.
  • Experience interfacing with EPCI contractors, vessel operators, and subsea equipment vendors.
  • Working knowledge of relevant industry codes and standards (e.g., API, DNV, ISO) applicable to subsea engineering.
  • Proficiency with standard engineering and project documentation tools (e.g., MS Project, document control systems, CAD viewers).
  • Professional Engineer registration or progress toward Chartered Engineer status is an advantage.
