Job summary
Johnson Matthey is seeking a Senior Database Engineer in Kuala Lumpur to design, implement and manage SQL Server environments across on-premises and Azure. You will lead HA/DR setups, perform performance tuning, and support Power BI back-ends. Strong automation via PowerShell and T-SQL is required.
The role emphasizes lifecycle management, migrations, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure reliable database services and secure practices.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of hands-on Microsoft SQL Server administration within enterprise environments.
- Strong experience with SQL Server 2016, 2019, 2022 and newer versions.
- Experience administering SQL Server on-premises and in Microsoft Azure.
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, administer and support SQL Server environments on-premises and in Azure.
- Manage lifecycle activities: installation, configuration, patching, upgrades, migrations, capacity planning.
- Design and maintain HA/DR solutions (Always On AG, Failover Clustering, backup & recovery).
- Monitor and optimize performance, tuning queries and managing indexes.
- Lead upgrades, migrations and database consolidation with minimal business impact.
- Support Power BI back-end databases and analytics workloads.
- Develop automation using PowerShell, T-SQL, SQL Agent, and Azure automation.
