Job summary

DH DIGILAB (M) SDN BHD is seeking a Senior Software Developer with strong backend capabilities to join the engineering team and contribute to a large-scale property platform. The role emphasizes solid software engineering fundamentals, ownership, and end-to-end delivery from design to production.

The ideal candidate will design backend services, APIs, and database schemas, implement authentication with RBAC, and collaborate with frontend developers when needed.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software development experience.
• Strong backend fundamentals: API design, architecture and database design.
• Good knowledge of PostgreSQL and/or MySQL, with SQL performance concepts.
• Experience with modern web app development; React and/or Next.js is a plus.
• Experience with Git, code reviews, automated testing and collaborative workflows.
• Comfortable with Linux, Docker, CI/CD and cloud/server environments.
• Able to work independently; communicate technical decisions clearly.
• Professional proficiency in English and Mandarin for client communication.

Job description

We are looking for a Senior Software Developer with strong backend capability to join our engineering team and contribute to a large-scale property platform. This role is intentionally broad: we value strong software engineering fundamentals and ownership more than experience with one exact technology stack. The right candidate should be comfortable taking a feature from requirement clarification and technical design through implementation, testing, deployment and production support. Backend strength is a major advantage, while full-stack capability is welcome.

What You Will Do

Own and deliver software features from requirement to production.

Design and build reliable backend services, REST APIs and system integrations.

Design database schemas and write efficient queries for production workloads.

Implement authentication, authorization and role-based access control (RBAC).

Work with frontend developers and contribute to frontend development when required.

Review code, improve engineering standards and help maintain code quality.

Investigate production issues, identify root causes and implement sustainable fixes.

Participate in architecture discussions and challenge unclear or risky technical requirements.

Work with internal teams, clients and stakeholders to translate business requirements into practical technical solutions.

Support deployment, CI/CD and production operations where required.

What We Are Looking For

Around 5+ years of professional software development experience preferred. Strong candidates with less experience may still be considered.

Strong backend development fundamentals, including API design, application architecture and database design.

Good working knowledge of PostgreSQL and/or MySQL, including SQL performance fundamentals.

Experience with modern web application development. React and/or Next.js experience is an advantage.

Experience with Git, code review, automated testing and collaborative development workflows.

Comfortable working with Linux, Docker, CI/CD and cloud or server environments.

Able to work independently, investigate problems and make sound technical decisions without requiring detailed step-by-step instructions.

Able to communicate technical decisions clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Professional working proficiency in both English and Mandarin is required to effectively communicate with Mandarin-speaking clients.

Good to Have

Laravel / PHP experience.

Experience building high-traffic public-facing platforms.

Third-party API and enterprise system integration experience.

Cloud infrastructure experience such as AWS, Azure, Linode, Hetzner or similar.

Performance optimization, caching and database tuning experience.

Security awareness covering authentication, access control, data protection and common web vulnerabilities.

AI or LLM API integration experience.

Experience mentoring junior developers or taking technical ownership of a module or project.

Interview Focus

Our interview will focus on practical engineering judgement rather than memorising framework-specific questions. Candidates should be prepared to discuss systems they have built, backend architecture, database decisions, API design, production incidents, trade-offs and how they approach ambiguous requirements.
