Job summary

SARAYA GOODMAID SND BHD is seeking a seasoned R&D/formulation specialist to lead the development and optimization of cleaning detergents from laboratory trials through commercialization.

You will evaluate raw materials, troubleshoot issues, and coordinate with Production, QA/QC, and NPD teams to ensure quality and regulatory adherence. A 5+ year background in detergent chemistry is required, with a strong focus on surfactants and sustainable formulations.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of R&D/formulation experience in cleaning detergent industries.
• Hands-on knowledge of detergent formulation and surfactant systems.
• Experience in raw material evaluation, stability testing and product troubleshooting.
• Experience in production scale-up and commercialization is an advantage.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and teamwork skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Lead the formulation development from laboratory trials to commercialization.
• Develop and optimize formulations for performance, stability, quality, cost-effectiveness and sustainability.
• Conduct laboratory trials, stability studies, product benchmarking and performance testing.
• Evaluate and qualify raw materials, alternative ingredients and suppliers.
• Troubleshoot formulation, product quality and production issues and recommend effective solutions.
• Support production trials, scale-up and product transfer from laboratory to manufacturing.
• Work closely with Production, QA/QC, Procurement, Packaging and NPD teams on product development and technical issues.
• Prepare and maintain formulations, product specifications, test reports, SOPs and STPs.
• Support product compliance with relevant quality, safety, regulatory, ISO, GMP, HACCP and Halal requirements.
• Conduct technical research and identify opportunities for new products, product improvement and cost optimization.
• Maintain proper laboratory practices, equipment, chemical inventory and safety requirements.

Requirements

• Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Applied Chemistry or related discipline.
• Minimum 5 years of relevant R&D/formulation experience in cleaning detergent industries.
• Strong hands-on knowledge of detergent formulation and surfactant systems.
• Good knowledge of surfactants, builders, polymers, enzymes, solvents, preservatives, fragrances and other functional ingredients.
• Experience in raw material evaluation, stability testing, laboratory testing and product troubleshooting.
• Experience in production scale-up and commercialization is an advantage.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication and teamwork skills.
• Able to work independently, manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
• Passionate about innovation, product development and continuous improvement.

Preferred Experience

Experience in developing laundry detergents, dishwashing products, floor/surface cleaners, degreasers, or I&I cleaning products will be highly advantageous.
