Job summary

Global Environment Centre in Pekan, Malaysia, seeks a Senior Programme Officer for its Peatland Programme to implement and manage site-level projects. You will drive peatland conservation, awareness campaigns, stakeholder engagement, and prepare technical and management reports, liaising with local government, civil society, indigenous communities and partners.

The role requires a degree in Environmental or Natural Resource Management, fluent English and Bahasa Malaysia, strong writing skills,

Qualifications

  • Degree in Environmental or Natural Resource Management.
  • Fluent in English and Bahasa Malaysia with good writing skills.
  • Experience with forest, peatland, biodiversity, climate change, or plantation issues.
  • Minimum 10 years relevant working experience.
  • Experience coordinating with multi-stakeholder groups and indigenous communities.
  • Experience in event organisation and information exchange.

Responsibilities

  • Implement and manage multiple site-level projects within the Peatland Programme.
  • Coordinate peatland conservation, awareness programmes, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Prepare technical and management reports.
  • Collaborate with local government, private sector, CSOs and communities.
  • Plan community development and empowerment events.
  • Contribute to development of new projects and activities.

SENIOR PROGRAMME OFFICER - PEATLAND PROGRAMME

The Senior Programme Officer for Peatland Programme is based in Pekan, Pahang. The role involves implementing and managing a range of existing projects at site level, undertaking project activities such as peatland conservation, awareness programmes, networking and information exchange, and preparing technical and management reports.

Key responsibilities

Implement and manage a range of existing projects at site level

Undertake project activities such as peatland conservation, awareness programmes, stakeholder engagement and information exchange

Prepare technical and management reports

Communicate and work with partner agencies at local level (local government, private sector, Civil Society Organisations, and indigenous people and local community groups)

Plan and execute community development and empowerment events/programmes

Work with partner agencies in Malaysia and overseas

Input to development of new projects and activities

Contribute to other elements of the Peatland Programme as appropriate

Requirements for the role

Degree in Environmental or Natural Resource Management

Fluent in English and Bahasa Malaysia with good writing skills

Experience in computer and basic software skills - e.g. Microsoft office

Experience in management of forest, natural resources, peatland, biodiversity, climate change and/or plantation issues

Minimum 10 years relevant working experience

Experience in communication with multi-stakeholder, including government agencies and indigenous community

Experience in awareness event organisation and information exchange

Experience in multidisciplinary teams an advantage

Willingness to work with indigenous communities

Willingness to station at Pekan, Pahang
