Job summary

AMD in Penang, Malaysia is seeking a Senior Product Development engineer to collaborate with design, validation and product engineering teams. You will drive technical decisions and be accountable for accurate, reliable results across projects with significant impact.

You will lead test strategy, pattern development, and interop testing for PCIe and high-speed interfaces, while guiding root-cause analysis and process improvements to optimize yield and cost.

Responsibilities

• Identify product improvements to reduce cost, improve yield, and resolve quality issues.
• Lead PCIe and high-speed I/O validation across the product roadmap, including test plan development and error handling.
• Drive root cause analysis on HSIO signal integrity and protocol failures using analyzers and scopes, distinguishing silicon vs board issues.
• Plan multi-vendor interoperability and PCI-SIG compliance testing and contribute to errata/known-issues documentation.

THE ROLE:

As a Senior Product Development engineer, you will collaborate with various Product Development Groups. This individual serves as a critical technical point of contact to the business, design, platform validation and product engineering teams. THE PERSON:

A successful candidate is one who can drive technical decisions independently, has accountability for accuracy, reliability and completeness of assignment results critical to the project's success. This role allows the opportunity to influence technical decisions that have a significant impact on multiple products or the product line.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Collaborate with design, validation, and architecture teams for content coverage, test pattern development, validation, and debugging
• Develop test program infrastructure incorporating latest Best-Known methods
• Solves sophisticated, novel, and non-recurring problems; initiates significant changes to existing processes/ methods and leads development and implementation
• Identify and plan product improvement activities to reduce cost, improve yield and resolve quality issues
• Lead functional and compliance validation of PCIe and other high-speed I/O interfaces (e.g., xGMI, CXL, USB, SATA) across the product roadmap, owning test plan development for link training/LTSSM, speed and width negotiation, equalization, power management states (ASPM, L1 substates), and error handling/recovery, from early silicon bring-up through production sign-off.
• Drive root cause analysis on complex HSIO signal integrity and protocol-level failures using protocol analyzers, high-speed oscilloscopes, and eye-diagram/margin analysis, distinguishing silicon defects from board-level SI issues, firmware bugs, and third-party interoperability problems, and driving resolution with design, firmware, and PHY teams.
• Plan and execute multi-vendor interoperability and PCI-SIG compliance testing across a broad ecosystem of endpoints, switches, and root complexes, representing the team at compliance workshops and owning the errata/known-issues documentation that informs respin and workaround decisions.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

• Experience with being responsible for projects or processes of significant technical importance and for results that cross engineering project areas
• Experience with scripting languages such as Perl, Ruby, shell script
• Proficient in Linux, Unix, or Windows OS
• Statistical analysis experience to resolve population mean and outliers
• Deep knowledge of computer architecture is preferred

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:

• Bachelor's or Master's in computer engineering or computer science or electrical engineering, or comparable disciplines.
