Job summary

Advanced Micro Devices in Penang, Malaysia, is seeking a Senior Product Development engineer to drive technical decisions across business, design, platform validation and product engineering teams.

You will lead test program infrastructure, validate PCIe and other high-speed I/O interfaces, and influence product roadmap decisions, contributing to cost reductions and yield improvements. Intense cross-functional collaboration is required.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with design, validation, and architecture teams for content coverage, test pattern development, validation, and debugging.
• Develop test program infrastructure incorporating latest best-known methods.
• Solve complex, novel, non-recurring problems and lead changes to processes and methods.
• Identify and plan product improvements to reduce cost, improve yield and resolve quality issues.
• Lead validation of PCIe and other high-speed I/O interfaces across the product roadmap, owning test plan development, link training, speed and width negotiation, equalization, power management, and error handling.
• Drive root cause analysis on HSIO signal integrity and protocol-level failures using analyzers and high-speed scopes, distinguishing silicon defects from board-level SI issues.
• Plan and execute multi-vendor interoperability and PCI-SIG compliance testing across endpoints, switches, and root complexes, and manage known-issues documentation.

THE PERSON:

A successful candidate is one who can drive technical decisions independently, has accountability for accuracy, reliability and completeness of assignment results critical to the project’s success. This role allows the opportunity to influence technical decisions that have a significant impact on multiple products or the product line.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Collaborate with design, validation, and architecture teams for content coverage, test pattern development, validation, and debugging
• Develop test program infrastructure incorporating latest Best-Known methods
• Solves sophisticated, novel, and non-recurring problems; initiates significant changes to existing processes/ methods and leads development and implementation
• Identify and plan product improvement activities to reduce cost, improve yield and resolve quality issues
• Lead functional and compliance validation of PCIe and other high-speed I/O interfaces (e.g., xGMI, CXL, USB, SATA) across the product roadmap, owning test plan development for link training/LTSSM, speed and width negotiation, equalization, power management states (ASPM, L1 substates), and error handling/recovery, from early silicon bring-up through production sign-off.
• Drive root cause analysis on complex HSIO signal integrity and protocol-level failures using protocol analyzers, high-speed oscilloscopes, and eye-diagram/margin analysis, distinguishing silicon defects from board-level SI issues, firmware bugs, and third-party interoperability problems, and driving resolution with design, firmware, and PHY teams.
• Plan and execute multi-vendor interoperability and PCI-SIG compliance testing across a broad ecosystem of endpoints, switches, and root complexes, representing the team at compliance workshops and owning the errata/known-issues documentation that informs respin and workaround decisions.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

• Experience with being responsible for projects or processes of significant technical importance and for results that cross engineering project areas
• Experience with scripting languages such as Perl, Ruby, shell script
• Proficient in Linux, Unix, or Windows OS
• Statistical analysis experience to resolve population mean and outliers
• Deep knowledge of computer architecture is preferred

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:

• Bachelor’ ’ s or M ’ s in computer engineering or computer science or electrical engineering, or comparable disciplines.
