Job summary

Altera seeks an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead mechanical design and thermal engineering of engineering validation boards, FPGA platforms, PCIe cards, and development kits. You will translate requirements into manufacturable hardware from concept through validation and release.

The role requires 10+ years of hands-on electronics platform experience, strong CAD skills (Creo/SolidWorks), and expertise in thermal simulations and cooling solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or closely related field.
• 10+ years of hands-on mechanical design and engineering experience for complex electronics platforms.
• Proficiency with Creo and/or SolidWorks for part, assembly, enclosure, and heatsink design.
• Hands-on experience with thermal simulation tools (e.g., ANSYS Icepak, FloTHERM, CFD).
• Strong understanding of heat transfer, cooling, and thermal management.

Responsibilities

• Own mechanical architecture for engineering validation boards and related platforms.
• Create and maintain 3D CAD designs, assemblies, layouts, and production drawings.
• Develop heatsink and thermal-management solutions for high-power designs.
• Perform thermal simulations and correlate models with lab measurements.
• Lead design reviews, DFx, and release of technical documentation.
• Plan and support hands-on bring-up and validation activities.
• Collaborate with electrical, package, and supplier teams to resolve cross-domain constraints.
• Mentor engineers and contribute to design standards.
