Job Summary
This role is created to strengthen PROTON’s communication with China-based media, visitors, Geely PR and other relevant stakeholders. The candidate will serve as the main liaison for Mandarin-speaking engagements, focusing on building Chinese media relations—an area not currently covered in the team.
Key responsibilities include managing media contacts, handling press enquiries, supporting PROTON management at events and preparing communication materials. The role is critical as PROTON expands its outreach and as the development of AHTV in Tanjung Malim grows in importance, requiring close coordination with Geely, Chinese government bodies, and industry players.
Job Description
Develop and implement communication strategies aligned with PROTON’s corporate objectives and the AHTV program.
Ensure consistency and coherence in messaging across all platforms and stakeholders.
Consider global communication trends and international perspectives, especially in the automotive and AHTV technology space.
Act as spokesperson and primary contact for media interactions, particularly with Chinese vernacular media.
Build and maintain strong relationships with media outlets to maximize coverage and deliver messaging effectively.
Prepare press releases, speeches, FAQs, and other materials for PROTON management.
Develop and execute crisis communication plans when required.
Monitor media coverage, public sentiment, and industry trends; provide reports and insights for leadership decision-making.
Serve as the bridge between PROTON and external entities including Geely, China government agencies, relevant companies, and industry players.
Foster and sustain positive relationships to support AHTV program development.
Establish and maintain effective communication channels with key stakeholders.
Keep employees updated on AHTV program developments, ensuring alignment and engagement.
Collaborate with internal teams (Marketing, CSRM, IPD, Manufacturing, CSO, etc.) to align communications with overall business strategies.
Plan, organize, and manage AHTV-related events such as launches, press conferences, and industry forums.
Ensure seamless communication during events to enhance visibility and reputation.
Oversee day-to-day communications tasks, including crafting press releases, fulfilling media enquiries, interpretation (Mandarin), and PR value monitoring.
Assign and manage tasks, ensuring deadlines are met and outputs are of high quality.
Leverage media relationships to deliver external messaging cost-effectively.
Job Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Business or related discipline.
Minimum 5 years of experience in communications, media relations or public affairs, preferably in an international or corporate environment.
Proven experience managing media engagement, press relations and stakeholder communications.
Excellent spoken and written proficiency in English, Bahasa Malaysia, and Mandarin.
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively at all organizational levels, including senior management.
High attention to detail, dependable, and able to work well under pressure without compromising quality.
Skilled in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Ability to craft clear, compelling messaging for diverse audiences.
Sound understanding of international protocol and diplomacy, especially in country-to-country engagements.
Strong problem-solving abilities with a proactive and solutions-oriented mindset.
Capable of managing multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
