Job summary

Standard Chartered is looking for a skilled Java Backend Engineer to join our team in Kuala Lumpur. You will be responsible for designing and maintaining robust financial systems, develop APIs, and work in a cloud-native microservices environment.

This role demands extensive experience in Java frameworks, DB integration, and API security, and offers flexible working patterns, well-being support, and a thriving learning culture.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in microservice API development using Java frameworks.
• Deep expertise in Java Spring Boot or Quarkus frameworks.
• Strong hands-on with PostgreSQL, Oracle, or similar databases.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services using Java Spring Boot / Quarkus.
• Implement microservices architecture to ensure scalability and maintainability.
• Develop and maintain messaging services using JMS and Solace.

Skills

10+ years of experience in microservice API development using Java frameworks

Deep expertise in Java Spring Boot or Quarkus frameworks

Extensive experience in cloud-native microservices development and API-first design

Strong experience in API integrations across enterprise systems and external vendors

Expertise with Docker, Kubernetes (K8s), SKE and OpenShift

Strong hands-on with PostgreSQL, Oracle, or similar databases

Knowledge of API and backend security mechanisms

Practical experience with observability and monitoring tools

Deep understanding of Agile at scale and enterprise DevOps practices

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Education

Bachelor’s degree in software engineering or any IT related field
