Job summary

NI Malaysia Sdn Bhd in Penang invites a Senior Hardware Digital Engineer (Sustaining) to lead board-level analogue/digital redesigns, validate with VHDL/SystemVerilog, and mentor junior engineers.

You will collaborate with manufacturing for DFM improvements, develop debug tools, document findings, and drive yields while maintaining alignment with software, calibration, and system architecture.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years in analog/digital board design.
• PhD/B.Eng/M.Eng/BS/MS in electrical or computer engineering.
• Experience defining routing constraints for high-speed interfaces.
• Experience with CPUs/SoCs/Microcontrollers.

Senior Hardware Digital Engineer (Sustaining)

Lead hardware redesign efforts by proposing alternative components, creating proof‑of‑concept designs, and ensuring minimal impact to software, calibration, and system architecture. Design, simulate, verify, and validate analog/digital board‑level circuits using CAD tools (e.g., Mentor Graphics), including debugging and resolving hardware issues.

Perform root‑cause analysis and failure analysis during V&V and manufacturing builds, documenting findings and driving both short‑and long‑term solutions. Collaborate closely with manufacturing to integrate DFM improvements, develop debug tools, provide training materials, and enhance product yield and quality.

Mentor junior engineers while contributing to technical documentation, test automation, and high‑speed digital design involving CPUs/SoCs/microcontrollers.

In this Role, Your Responsibilities Will Be:

Research and propose alternative parts with effective solutions in consideration of avoiding major software & product calibration, hardware topology changes to replace EOL parts in NI products.

Implement and simulate designs through CAD and synthesis tools. i.e. Mentor Graphics.

Verify and validate designs of hardware re‑designs. Debug any issues that may arise.

Have good knowledge in failure analysis to root cause failures during early VnV and MFG builds.

Integrate DFM inputs from MFG to improve product yield & quality.

Proactive in doing mock‑up design as POC (Proof of Concept) to strengthen re‑design proposal to get final approval from domain leaders.

RCA know how. Able to come up fish bone diagram to list possible root cause and narrow down to actual root cause.

Properly document failure / project progress and share with stakeholder by sharing short and long term design solutions.

Mentor junior engineers and share your expertise/technical knowledge.

Lead the team to develop product and design documentation.

Create debug tool and training material for MFG during product release.

For This Role, You Will Need:

Minimum 5 years work experience in analog/digital design with expertise in board level design and/or VHDL/System Verilog

PhD/B.Eng/M.Eng/BS/MS in electrical engineering or computer engineering.

Experience defining routing constraints for high-speed interfaces.

Experience in circuit design with CPU/SoC/Micro-controller.

Preferred Qualifications that Set You Apart:
