Job summary

Brooks Automation is seeking a Senior Global Commodity Manager – Mechanical based in Malaysia. You will drive regional commodity strategies across metals, electronics, cables, and gas components, lead strategic supplier negotiations, and coordinate cross-functional teams to resolve supply challenges in a fast-paced, global manufacturing environment.

The role requires 5+ years of strategic sourcing leadership, strong executive presence, and experience with SEMI equipment manufacturing.

Qualifications

• 5+ years leading strategic sourcing and commodity management in global manufacturing.
• Experience developing supplier strategies and executive-level relationships with measurable outcomes.
• Strong executive presence, able to influence stakeholders and supplier leadership.
• Self-directed with ability to prioritize competing business needs and drive timely execution.
• Understands RFQ through procurement and delivery in materials orders.

• Excellent English communication, both verbal and written.
• Fluency in English; Mandarin/Bahasa Malaysia a plus.
• Experience building supplier networks in Malaysia, SE Asia, and China preferred.
• Knowledge of SEMI equipment manufacturing is desirable.
• Background in materials management across metals machining, sheet metal fabrication, electronics, cables, and gas distribution.

Responsibilities

• Develops and executes Malaysia/Southeast Asia regional commodity strategies across metals, sheets, coatings, electronics, cables, and gas components.
• Leads strategic negotiations for pricing, terms, contracts, capacity, and long-term supplier agreements.
• Owns senior commercial and supply-chain matters for supplier escalations and cross-functional resolution.
• Reads technical drawings and specifications stored in Agile or similar tools.
• Program management experience or PMI certification preferred.
• Lean Six-Sigma training/certification preferred.
• Manages end-to-end sourcing from RFQ to supplier selection, PO, delivery, and performance.
• Engages suppliers across Malaysia, SE Asia, China, and other regions for quality, cost, delivery, and scalability.
• Aligns supplier capabilities with Brooks’ technology roadmap and manufacturing growth.
• Leads initiatives to improve sourcing effectiveness, supplier readiness, and continuity of supply.
• Supports Johor facility and regional supplier readiness; participates in regional manufacturing expansion.
• Travel regionally within Malaysia, SE Asia, and China; occasional international travel.

The Sr. Global Commodity Manager is a senior strategic sourcing leader based in Malaysia/Southeast Asia, responsible for developing and executing regional commodity strategies that strengthen Brooks’ supply base, improve continuity of supply, reduce total cost, and support long-term manufacturing growth across Malaysia, China, and the broader Southeast Asia region. This role requires advanced Supply Chain expertise, strong business judgment, and the ability to lead cross-functional teams through complex supplier, cost, quality, and delivery challenges. The successful candidate will build executive-level partnerships with targeted regional suppliers, align supplier capabilities with Brooks’ technology roadmap, and help ensure Brooks delivers high-quality, innovative automation solutions that solve high-value problems for our global customers.

Responsibilities include:

• Develops and executes Malaysia/Southeast Asia regional commodity strategies across key material categories, including metals machining, sheet metal fabrication, special coatings, electronic components, cables, and gas distribution components used in the SEMI industry
• Leads strategic negotiations for pricing, commercial terms, contracts, capacity commitments, and long-term supplier agreements while strengthening executive-level supplier relationships
• Serves as the senior commercial and supply-chain owner for critical supplier escalations, coordinating Brooks’ cross-functional resources to resolve production, quality, delivery, capacity, and cost challenges
• Familiar with reading technical drawings and specifications stored in Agile or other similar tools
• Program Management experience and/or PMI certification preferred
• Lean Six Sigma training and/or certification preferred
• Owns end-to-end sourcing execution from RFQ through supplier selection, purchase order placement, material delivery, and ongoing supplier performance management
• Engages suppliers across Malaysia, Southeast Asia, China, and other strategic global regions to secure high-quality materials, competitive total cost, reliable delivery performance, and scalable support for Brooks’ manufacturing roadmap
• Recognizes Copy Exact material requirements in SEMI and other industries -- from First Article Inspection thru Production
• Leads initiatives that improve sourcing effectiveness, supplier readiness, cost performance, continuity of supply, and business scalability in a fast-paced environment
• Serves as a key regional sourcing leader supporting Brooks’ Johor facility, Malaysia-based supplier readiness, and broader Southeast Asia manufacturing expansion
• Regular regional travel within Malaysia, Southeast Asia, and China required; occasional international travel may be required

Required Skills:

• Minimum 5+ years of experience leading strategic sourcing, commodity management, program management, and cross-functional supplier initiatives in a global manufacturing environment
• Demonstrated experience developing supplier strategies, managing executive-level supplier relationships, and driving measurable sourcing outcomes across cost, quality, delivery, and supply continuity.
• Strong executive presence with the ability to influence internal stakeholders and supplier leadership, communicate complex tradeoffs, and align teams around business-critical sourcing decisions.
• Self-directed leader who can prioritize competing business needs, provide clarity in ambiguous situations, and drive timely execution of sourcing initiatives, supplier recovery plans, and strategic programs.
• Understands materials order management cycle – RFQ thru Materials Procurement & Delivery
• Proven ability to partner with Engineering, Quality, Operations, Finance, and Supply Chain teams to identify cost drivers, mitigate risk, improve supplier performance, and support strategic manufacturing objectives
• Advanced analytical, negotiation, communication, and business acumen skills, with the ability to convert complex supply-chain data into clear recommendations and executive-ready action plans.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills using the English language
• Fluency in English required; proficiency in Mandarin Chinese, Bahasa Malaysia, or other Southeast Asian languages is a strong plus.
• Strong preference for direct experience building and managing supplier networks in Malaysia, Southeast Asia, and China, including regional sourcing practices, commercial negotiation dynamics, supply-chain risk management, and local business customs.
• Experience and knowledge of SEMI Equipment manufacturing desired
• Strong background in materials management including familiar with multiple materials commodities including metals machining, sheet metal fabrication, electronic components, cables, gas distribution components, preferably used in the SEMI industry

Required Experience and Education: BS or BA Degree in Supply Chain Management, Engineering or Technical discipline. Project/Program management training and/or PMP certification preferred. Lean Six-Sigma training and/or certification preferred.
