Job summary

Altera in Penang, Malaysia, seeks an experienced FPGA RTL and Firmware Development Engineer to own and lead FPGA-based platform solutions. Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Electrical/Computer Engineering or related field.
• 10+ years of professional FPGA RTL design and system-level validation.
• Hands-on Verilog/VHDL, digital logic, and computer architecture experience.
• Experience with Altera Quartus II flow: simulation, synthesis, timing analysis, and device programming.
• Proficiency in C/C++ for embedded firmware development.
• Experience with Nios II soft-core and peripheral access.
• Knowledge of EDS for Nios II development, build, debug, and integration.

Responsibilities

• Define, architect, design, implement, and validate FPGA RTL solutions using Verilog/VHDL for platform hardware and development kits.
• Lead full FPGA development flow: planning, simulation, synthesis, implementation, timing analysis, timing closure, and release readiness with Quartus II.
• Develop embedded firmware in C/C++ for FPGA-based systems, focusing on Nios II and peripherals.
• Use EDS alongside Quartus II to build, debug, and validate Nios II software components.
• Translate requirements into scalable RTL, register maps, and firmware interfaces.
• Support board bring-up, configuration, and hardware/software integration across platforms.
• Plan and execute simulation, lab validation, stress testing, and system-level debugging.
• Investigate RTL/firmware issues and drive root-cause analysis and fixes.
• Develop reusable RTL blocks, test utilities, and automation scripts to improve efficiency.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve issues and reduce platform risks.
• Review designs and provide guidance to engineers; document RTL and tests per standards.
