PTTEP in Malaysia seeks an experienced Senior Electrical Engineer to support offshore and onshore facilities across concept to commissioning phases. You will lead electrical design deliverables, coordinate with consultants and contractors, and ensure compliance with international standards.

Role requires 10+ years in Oil & Gas, strong knowledge of ETAP and other design tools, and ability to integrate with multi-discipline teams during fabrication, installation and hook-up activities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Minimum 10 years in Oil & Gas industry with electrical engineering experience.
  • Experience in Conceptual, FEED, Detailed Engineering and EPC project execution.
  • Experience with offshore/onshore electrical systems including fabrication, installation, and commissioning interfaces.
  • Familiarity with ETAP or similar electrical analysis software.

Responsibilities

  • Provide electrical engineering support for offshore/onshore facilities including power generation and distribution.
  • Develop and review design calculations, load lists, single line diagrams, specs, datasheets, drawings, and reports.

Job description

JOB SUMMARY
  • To provide electrical engineering expertise and support project teams in delivering safe, compliant, and efficient electrical power generation and distribution system designs for greenfield and brownfield projects across all phases (Conceptual, FEED, Detailed Engineering, fabrication, installation, hook-up and commissioning).
  • The role supports engineering activities and technical decisions in alignment with Company standards, applicable international codes/standards (IEC/IEEE/NEC) and local regulations, engineering best practices, and operational requirements.
  • In project assignments, the incumbent will report to the Engineering Lead/Manager and execute assigned duties in line with project engineering objectives and strategies.
  • Additionally, the role provides electrical engineering support during post-project phases, including Management of Change (MOC), troubleshooting, and operational support where required.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide electrical engineering support for offshore/onshore facilities including power generation, power distribution, protection, grounding/earthing, lighting, electrical equipment and packages in accordance with Company standards and applicable codes/standards.
  • Develop and review electrical engineering deliverables such as design calculations, load lists, single line diagrams, specifications, datasheets, drawings, and design reports to ensure technical completeness and quality.
  • Coordinate and review deliverables from engineering consultants, EPC/EPCI contractors, and vendors across Conceptual, FEED, and Detailed Engineering phases to ensure quality, compliance, and alignment to project requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with Company specifications, applicable codes/standards, regulations, and engineering philosophy throughout all project phases and interfaces.
  • Provide technical input to define scope of work, technical specifications, and tender documentation for electrical-related packages and services.
  • Support procurement activities including preparation of ITB, participation in technical bid evaluation (TBE), bidder clarifications, and review/acceptance of vendor documentation and deviations.
  • Participate in engineering and safety reviews/workshops such as design reviews, risk assessments, constructability reviews, and other technical workshops as required by project scope.
  • Provide technical support during fabrication, FAT/SAT, installation, hook-up, offshore commissioning and system testing, including responses to site technical queries (STQ) and punch clearance/close-out support.
  • Manage multidisciplinary interfaces and verify compatibility of electrical systems with other disciplines (process/mechanical/instrument/safety/telecom) at topside and site level.
  • Monitor and appraise contractor/vendor performance, initiate corrective actions when performance deviates from agreed requirements, and ensure effective close-out of key actions/issues.
  • Support Facilities Operations (onshore/offshore) on electrical engineering matters including troubleshooting, upgrades, modifications, inspections, and electrical integrity improvements as required.
  • Support Management of Change (MOC) implementation and ensure proper documentation and technical assurance for approved changes affecting electrical systems.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lead assigned electrical engineering tasks or work packages under the supervision of the Engineering Lead/Manager.
  • Provide regular updates on progress, deliverables, key risks, and issues to the Project Manager/Engineering Lead and propose practical solutions.
  • Perform site visits (onshore/offshore) as required by project activities.
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers to support capability development and knowledge sharing.
  • Assume supervisory responsibilities during periods of absence, when assigned.
  • Promote and ensure effective implementation of SSHE rules and engineering best practices within the work scope.

  • Competency in developing and reviewing engineering deliverables (calculations, specifications, datasheets, drawings, vendor documentation).
  • Familiarity with procurement processes including ITB preparation and technical bid evaluation (TBE), and vendor performance management.
  • Understanding of fabrication, installation, hook-up, commissioning, and system testing interfaces for electrical packages and systems.
  • Working knowledge of applicable codes/standards and statutory requirements (IEC, IEEE, NEC, and local regulations).
Software Proficiency
Mandatory:
  • Power system analysis tools (e.g., ETAP / SKM PowerTools or equivalent)
  • Microsoft Excel, Powerpoint and standard office tools
Preferred:
  • Electrical drafting/design tools (e.g., AutoCAD / AVEVA / SmartPlant as applicable)

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent recognized by the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) and Company.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in Oil & Gas industry, including electrical engineering in projects and/or operations.
  • Experience in Conceptual, FEED, Detailed Engineering, and EPC project execution.
  • Experience in offshore/onshore electrical systems including fabrication, installation, and commissioning interfaces.
  • Experience working with consultants and contractors, including engineering deliverable reviews and interface coordination.
  • Familiarity with electrical design and analysis software (e.g., ETAP)
