Job summary

NEXT Ventures is seeking a Senior Database Reliability Engineer to own database reliability for real-money trading products in a multi-region AWS environment. You will drive performance, recoverability, and operational excellence across the data tier.

You will mentor junior engineers, establish engineering standards, and lead critical incidents, ensuring data infrastructure remains reliable, secure, and scalable for a global user base.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in database engineering, reliability engineering, or site reliability engineering.
• Strong hands-on knowledge of MySQL and PostgreSQL; Aurora/RDS experience preferred.
• Experience with multi-terabyte databases and high-volume tables.
• Proven ability to lead incidents, perform blameless RCAs, and mentor engineers.

Responsibilities

• Own query performance and latency across Aurora MySQL and PostgreSQL.
• Design partitioning, sharding, and lifecycle strategies for high-volume tables.
• Lead disaster recovery, RTT/RPO objectives, and DR drills.
• Collaborate on schema changes, migrations, and data migrations with safety.
• Define and monitor data-tier SLIs/SLOs and build observability with Datadog or similar.
