Job summary

Handshakes by DC Frontiers is seeking an experienced Database Reliability Engineer to own the health, performance, and resilience of our production database estate across AWS RDS, DocumentDB, and DynamoDB. You will partner with Platforms Engineering and Product Engineering to keep data systems fast, available, and secure.

This hands-on role requires strong DBA fundamentals, IaC skills (Terraform, CDKTF, CloudFormation), and a track record of upgrades, migrations, backups, and incident response.

Qualifications

• 5-7 years of production DB/RE or similar experience.
• Strong SQL for complex queries and tuning.
• Deep AWS RDS MSSQL experience plus DocumentDB and DynamoDB.
• Experience with backups, DR, and recoveries.
• Plan and execute upgrades and migrations minimizing downtime.
• IaC tools: Terraform, CDKTF or CloudFormation.
• Version-controlled schema migrations and change management.
• Knowledge of cloud networking, health checks, and troubleshooting.
• Relational and NoSQL design fundamentals.
• Strong documentation and stakeholder communication.

Responsibilities

• Own health, performance, and resilience of production databases.
• Monitor connectivity and system-level metrics; participate in on-call rotation.
• Run performance checks using AWS tooling and track trends.
• Review schema and query design for indexing and efficiency.
• Plan and execute upgrades, patches, and migrations with rollback plans.
• Own backup strategy and restore testing across managed services.
• Write and maintain IaC to provision database infrastructure.
• Manage schema migrations with clear change records.
• Monitor costs and capacity utilization; advise right-sizing.
• Collaborate with Platforms, Product Engineering, and Security teams.
