Job summary

Avensys Consulting is seeking a Senior/Lead Database Engineer to administer and optimize enterprise DB platforms including SQL Server, Oracle and PostgreSQL. You will ensure high availability, perform upgrades and automate routine tasks, collaborating with infrastructure and application teams in KL, Malaysia.

• 5+ years hands-on with RAC and Data Guard, SQL Always On.
• Proven experience in large scale production environments, upgrades and migrations.
• Strong analytical skills, attention to detail and good communication.

Responsibilities

• Administer, maintain and support enterprise DB platforms including SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL.
• Perform day-to-day operational database administration across multiple environments.
• Ensure databases are stable, available and performing per SLAs.
• Manage instance configuration, startup/shutdown and routine tasks.
• Provision, clone, refresh and decommission databases.
• Backup, recovery, patching and minor upgrades across platforms.
• Performance tuning: queries, indexes, statistics, memory and storage.
• Automate DBA tasks using scripting (Shell, Python, Ansible).
• Collaborate with infra and app teams on deployments; drive operational improvements.

JOB DESCRIPTION

• Administer, maintain and support enterprise database platforms including Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle database, MySQL, PostgreSQL and other supported relational database platforms within the organization.
• Perform day‑to‑day operational database administration activities across production, DR, UAT, SIT and DEV environments
• Ensure database systems are operationally stable, available and performing within defined service level expectations
• Manage database instance configuration, startup/shutdown activities and routine operational tasks.
• Perform database creation, provisioning, cloning, refresh and decommissioning activities.
• Execute routine database housekeeping and preventive maintenance activities
• Execute and monitor database backup and recovery operations across all supported platforms
• Perform database patching, maintenance, and minor upgrade activities across supported database platforms.
• Perform basic to intermediate performance tuning activities involving query optimization, index maintenance, statistics updates, database reorganization, memory and storage utilization tuning.
• Automate routine DBA tasks using scripting (Shell, Python, Ansible)
• Work closely with infrastructure and application teams on critical deployments.
• Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency, reduce manual effort and minimize operational risk.
• Participate in continuous service improvements and operational optimization programs.
• Support project implementation activities requiring database operational involvement.
• Administer, maintain, monitor and support open source databases including MongoDB, MariaDB, CockroachDB, and other supported open source and distributed database technologies withing the organization

Regulators Qualifications & Skills (including mandated licenses where applicable)

1. A recognized bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems Engineering or related subjects Degree in Computer Science/Information Technology or related qualifications

2. Minimum 8 to 10 years in SQL Server, Oracle database, MySQL, PostgreSQL administration and minimum 5+ years hands on with RAC and Data Guard & SQL Always On

3. Proven experience in large scale production environments, database upgrades and migrations

4. Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.

5. Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills with ability to influence and collaborate effectively across all levels within the bank.

6. High ethical standards and integrity, with the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.

7. Experience supporting multi-database environments (SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL & etc)

The following qualifications are considered as assets:

• -Knowledge of cloud computing technologies e.g HCS
• -Experienced with open-source databases specifically MongoDB, MariaDB, CockroachDB, Cassandra
