Ideas International Penang is seeking an engaging and committed Secondary English Teacher with experience teaching the Cambridge curriculum and preparing students for Cambridge IGCSE English examinations. We are looking for a teacher who combines strong subject knowledge with an inclusive, student-centred approach, helping learners of different abilities develop confidence and competence in reading, writing, speaking and listening.

Candidates with suitable experience and demonstrated leadership capability could be considered for a Head of Department position. The ability and willingness to teach Global Perspectives or other humanities subjects would be an advantage.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and teach engaging, appropriately challenging English lessons aligned with the Cambridge curriculum.
• Prepare students for Cambridge IGCSE English examinations through clear teaching of syllabus content, assessment objectives and examination skills.
• Develop students' literacy, critical thinking, communication and independent learning skills.
• Adapt teaching to support students with different levels of English proficiency and learning needs.
• Use questioning, assessment and feedback to identify gaps in understanding and guide students' next steps.
• Monitor progress, maintain accurate records and communicate constructively with students and parents.
• Contribute to curriculum planning, assessment design and the development of shared teaching resources.
• Establish a positive classroom environment with clear expectations and supportive relationships.

About you

• A relevant degree in English language, Education or a closely related field.
• Teaching qualification or certification.
• Experience teaching secondary English within the Cambridge curriculum.
• Direct experience taking students through a Cambridge IGCSE English course to the final examinations.
• A sound understanding of IGCSE assessment requirements, marking criteria and examination preparation.
• Excellent spoken and written English.
