We are a well-established freight forwarding company seeking an experienced Seafreight Manager to lead our seafreight department. The successful candidate will be responsible for sourcing competitive ocean freight rates, managing key trade lane relationships and driving the department's operational and business performance based in Port Klang.
Plan, direct and coordinate the activities of the Seafreight department to ensure efficient movement of international ocean freight, and that the department operates profitably and is self-supporting financially.
Source and negotiate competitive sea freight rates and secure space availability for both containerized and breakbulk shipments from shipping lines, NVOCCs, freight forwarders and overseas agents.
Attend to enquiries and provide competitive ocean freight quotations to the Sales team and overseas agents.
Maintain and regularly update the company's freight rates database, including buying and selling rates, to ensure pricing accuracy and competitiveness.
Develop freight solutions for all Incoterms, including import, export, cross-trade and triangle shipments, across global trade lanes, with a strong focus on Intra-Asia and Southeast Asia.
Build and maintain strong relationships with shipping lines, NVOCCs, overseas agents and logistics partners to secure competitive rates and service support.
Work closely with the Sales and Operations teams to develop new business potential, devise strategic approaches to the market and ensure customer satisfaction.
Conduct market research on importers, exporters and trade lanes; gather market intelligence and analyse freight trends to identify business opportunities and potential customers or strategic partners for the Sales Manager and CEO.
Analyse and control direct and indirect departmental expenditure to conform to budgetary requirements.
Direct and manage staffing, training and performance evaluations of department staff to develop personnel and improve service quality.
Provide clear leadership and guidance, with honest dialogue and proactive personnel management, to build and motivate the team.
Encourage open dialogue with operational employees, customer service and management to ensure alignment of objectives, strategies and tactics.
Keep ab„arst of shipping market developments, freight rate movements and industry trends; leverage digital tools and technology to improve sourcing efficiency, reporting and freight management processes.
Undertake any other duties as deemed necessary by management.
Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Maritime Studies, International Business or a related field.
Minimum 5 years working experience in Sea Freight Rates Sourcing, Pricing, Customer Service or Operations within the logistics or freight forwarding industry.
Strong knowledge of ocean freight operations, shipping documentation, freight pricing, Incoterms and international trade.
Well-connected within the shipping industry, with established relationships with shipping lines, NVOCCs, overseas agents and logistics partners.
Strong negotiation, analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to provide competitive freight solutions.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across Sales, Operations and external stakeholders.
Self-motivated, resourceful and passionate about logistics, freight sourcing and business development.
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and comfortable using logistics systems and digital technologies.
Adaptable to a fast-paced environment, with the ability to manage multiple enquiries and meet tight deadlines.
