Job summary

ACE EdVenture Education Group is seeking a dedicated School Counsellor to support students’ emotional, social, academic and personal development within our international school environment.

The role requires a Master’s degree in Psychology or Counselling and registration as a licensed counsellor under Lembaga Kaunselor Malaysia, with at least two years of relevant experience. English and Bahasa Malaysia proficiency is essential; Mandarin is advantageous.

Join our growing student support team and play a meaningful role in helping students navigate their academic, personal, social and emotional development. We are seeking a passionate and qualified School Counsellor who is committed to supporting students, building meaningful relationships, and creating a positive environment where every student can thrive.

Core Roles and Responsibilities

Counselling & Student Support

Provide individual and group counselling to students based on their emotional, social, academic, personal, and developmental needs.

Monitor students’ academic performance, behaviour, attendance, and overall well‑being to identify concerns requiring support.

Assist students in developing appropriate academic, personal, and career goals, including practical action plans to support their progress.

Provide guidance and support to help students maximise their potential and develop positive coping, decision‑making, and interpersonal skills.

Assessment, Intervention & Case Management

Assess students’ needs and circumstances and develop appropriate intervention plans based on identified concerns.

Implement, monitor, and evaluate interventions, making adjustments where necessary to ensure appropriate and effective support.

Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date records of counselling cases, assessments, interventions, progress, and follow‑ups.

Ensure strict confidentiality and appropriate handling of students’ and parents’ information in accordance with school policies and relevant requirements.

Refer students to appropriate external professionals, agencies, or healthcare providers when specialised support is required.

Escalate and report safeguarding concerns, including suspected abuse or neglect, in accordance with school policies and relevant regulations.

Coordinate with relevant internal and external parties to ensure continuity of support and appropriate follow‑up for students.

Counselling Programmes & Preventive Initiatives

Develop, implement, and manage counselling programmes that support students’ emotional, social, academic, personal, and developmental needs.

Plan and facilitate preventive and responsive programmes, workshops, talks, campaigns, and other initiatives for students, teachers, and parents/guardians.

Identify emerging student needs and recommend new programmes or initiatives to school leadership.

Evaluate programme outcomes and continuously improve counselling initiatives based on student needs and feedback.

Parent, Teacher & Stakeholder Collaboration

Collaborate with parents/guardians to provide appropriate guidance and strategies to support students’ learning, development, and well‑being at home.

Consult and work closely with teachers, school management, and relevant educational or community resources to address students’ needs.

Provide appropriate recommendations and guidance to teachers and parents/guardians on strategies to support students with identified concerns.

Maintain effective communication with relevant stakeholders to ensure a coordinated approach to student support.

Student Engagement & School Community

Support and participate in relevant student activities, programmes, and school events.

Promote a positive, inclusive, and supportive school environment that prioritises student well‑being, personal development, and positive student experiences.

Contribute to initiatives that strengthen student engagement, belonging, and overall school community well‑being.

Role Requirements

Masters' Degree in Phychology/Counselling.

Must be registered and a licensed counsellor under Lembaga Kaunselor Malaysia (LKM).

Minimum 2 years relevant working experience. Experience in an international school setting is an added advantage.

Fresh graduates are also welcome to apply.

Good command of English and Bahasa Malaysia; the ability to converse in Mandarin is an added advantage.

Thorough understanding of barriers to student learning and using counselling strategies to eliminate those barriers.

Knowledge of individual counselling, group counselling and classroom instruction promotes academic achievement.

Knowledge and experience in special education (added advantage).

To have a basic understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.

To have a working knowledge of various counselling models, practices and resources.
