Job summary

THG Corporation Sdn Bhd in Malaysia seeks an Environmental Manager to oversee regulatory compliance, safety management, and training across its operations in Gopeng, Perak.

The role focuses on implementing OSHA 2022 standards, conducting risk assessments, and leading incident investigations with a focus on continuous improvement and liaison with DOSH.

The ideal candidate holds a Green Book SHO, a safety/engineering degree, and at least 8 years of related experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Occupational Safety & Health, Engineering, or related field.
• Minimum of a Green Book Holder - SHO registered with DOSH.
• Proven experience in OSH risk assessments, audits, and investigations.
• Excellent communication in Bahasa Malaysia and English.
• Experience with DOSH regulations and Malaysian environmental/safety laws.

Responsibilities

• Lead regulatory compliance and maintain all OSH records and documentation.
• Manage Safety and Health Policy and MS 1722:2011 / ISO 45001 based systems.
• Coordinate PTW for hazardous tasks and conduct internal safety audits.
• Plan OSH induction programs, safety training, and awareness campaigns.

• Organize emergency response plans and drills and maintain safety equipment.

Green Book Holder - SHO (DOSH)

Job description

1. Regulatory Compliance & Documentation:

• Ensure strict adherence to all local OSH laws, including but not limited to Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994 revision 2022 (Act 514), Environmental Quality Act 1974 and Guidelines from the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH)
• Maintain all required statutory records and documentation, such as the Register of Accidents, Dangerous Occurrences, Occupational Poisonings and Diseases (Form JKKP 6), and the OSH Committee meeting minutes.
• Act as the primary liaison with government bodies, including DOSH, for inspections, submissions, and follow-up actions.
• Prepare and submit mandatory reports, such as accident investigations and notifications of dangerous occurrences, as required by law.
• Conduct regular risk assessments (HIRARC - Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment, and Risk Control) for all operational activities, machinery, and substances.
• Identify potential hazards (physical, chemical, ergonomic, biological) in the manufacturing environment.
• Recommend and oversee the implementation of effective engineering, administrative, and personal protective equipment (PPE) controls
• Lead incident/accident investigations to determine root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

3. Safety Management System:

• Develop, review, and update the company’s Safety and Health Policy and Statement.
• Implement and maintain the Safety and Health Management System based on MS 1722:2011 or OHSAS 18001 / ISO 45001 standards.
• Conduct internal safety audits and inspections to evaluate program effectiveness.
• Manage the Permit-to-Work (PTW) system for hazardous tasks like hot work, confined space entry, and electrical work.

4. Training & Promotion:

• Plan and conduct OSH induction programs for new employees, contractors, and visitors.
• Organize and deliver ongoing safety training (e.g., fire safety, chemical handling, machine guarding, emergency response).
• Promote safety awareness through campaigns, tool-box talks, and safety committee meetings.
• Chair or co-chair the in-house Safety and Health Committee (JKKP) as mandated by law.
• Develop and maintain emergency response plans (fire, chemical spill, etc.).
• Organize and evaluate emergency drills (e.g., fire drills) at least twice a year.
• Ensure all emergency equipment (fire extinguishers, eyewash stations, first aid kits) are properly maintained and accessible.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of a Green Book Holder - Certified Safety and Health Officer (SHO) registered with DOSH.
• Minimum of 8 years of related experience.
• In-depth knowledge of the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994 (OSHA 2022), and other relevant Malaysian regulations.
• Proven experience in conducting HIRARC, internal audits, and accident investigations.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in Bahasa Malaysia and English.
• Has experience in Mining industry is an added advantage.
