MSR Green Energy Sdn Bhd seeks a Lead Electrical Engineer to lead electrical design, project execution, and grid interconnection for renewable energy projects. You will oversee LV/MV systems up to 33kV, perform power system studies, and ensure compliance with Malaysian regulations and IEC standards. Travel interstate may be required.
The candidate must hold PEPC and ST JEK 33kV, with 12+ years of relevant experience in detailed engineering, testing and commissioning. 132kV competency is a plus.
Job Summary: Join the forefront of the RE movement with MSR Green Energy (“MSR-GE”), a pioneering company dedicated to powering the future with sustainable and clean energy solutions. We are seeking an experienced Lead Electrical Engineer with strong expertise in electrical engineering design, power systems and grid interconnection and a minimum of 12 years of relevant experience to join us. The successful candidate must be a Professional Engineer with Practising Certificate (“PEPC”) registered with the Board of Engineers Malaysia (“BEM”) and hold a valid Competent Electrical Engineer (“JEK”) competency certificate issued by Suruhanjaya Tenaga (“ST”) for at least 33kV. Candidates holding 132kV JEK competency or above will be highly preferred. The role will be HQ based but involves a willingness to travel interstate. This role is crucial in leading the electrical engineering and design of our RE projects, from initial design and planning through to construction, testing and commissioning, while ensuring compliance with technical, regulatory, safety, timeline and budget requirements.
Lead the engineering design and review of low and medium voltage electrical systems, including systems up to 33kV, and provide technical input and coordination for higher-voltage systems where applicable
Where the candidate holds higher ST competency, undertake the relevant Competent Electrical Engineer duties up to the voltage level permitted under his / her competency certification
Lead and participate effectively in the development, review and approval of detailed engineering calculations and drawings including Load Lists / Schedules, Single Line Diagrams, Schematic Diagrams, Cable Schedules and Cable Drum Schedules, Interconnection Schedules, Equipment Layouts, Cable Routing and Layout Drawings, Cable Trench / Tray Layout Drawings and Earthing / Lightning Protection System Layouts
Lead the electrical design and development of RE projects, substations and associated grid interconnection facilities
Prepare, review and approve electrical equipment specifications, datasheets, technical requisitions and vendor drawings
Perform and / or review power system studies including load flow, short circuit, protection coordination, relay settings, motor starting and other relevant electrical studies using ETAP or equivalent software
Participate in project meetings to provide design updates, technical guidance and engineering solutions
Collaborate with Project Managers, contractors, consultants, vendors and site engineers to ensure timely and accurate project execution
Liaise with TNB, Suruhanjaya Tenaga and other relevant authorities, utilities and stakeholders on electrical design, grid connection, regulatory and technical matters
Ensure compliance with local grid interconnection requirements, utility regulations, applicable Malaysian legislation, IEC standards and other relevant local and international standards
Conduct reviews of designs to ensure technical accuracy and adherence to project requirements
Lead and support the planning and execution of RE projects, ensuring compliance with all technical specifications and regulatory standards
Provide technical guidance to electrical engineers, designers and draughtspersons and ensure the timely completion and quality of engineering deliverables
Support and oversee the installation, testing, energisation and commissioning of electrical systems within the candidate’s areas of technical expertise and competency
Review method statements, testing procedures, commissioning procedures and other technical documentation
Witness Factory Acceptance Tests (“FATs”), Site Acceptance Tests (“SATs”), protection testing and other equipment testing where required
Help manage on-site electrical activities to ensure projects are completed on schedule, within budget and to the highest quality standards
Participate in thorough inspections and quality control assessments to ensure the safety and effectiveness of electrical installations
Resolve electrical design, construction, testing and commissioning issues throughout the project lifecycle
Contribute to a culture of safety by adhering to electrical safety protocols and best practices on-site
Assist in the allocation of electrical materials, labour and equipment to maximise productivity and minimise costs
Act as MSR-GE’s in-house PEPC and Competent Electrical Engineer for relevant projects and, where legally permissible and within the scope and voltage level of the candidate’s professional registration and ST competency certification, review, certify, sign and endorse engineering calculations, drawings, reports and submissions prepared for MSR-GE projects
Where permitted by the relevant regulatory authority, consent to being nominated and / or registered as MSR-GE’s Professional Engineer, PEPC and / or Competent Electrical Engineer and make his / her professional registrations and competency credentials available in support of MSR-GE’s CIDB, ST / ECOS and other applicable statutory registrations, licences, certifications, tenders, pre-qualifications and project requirements
Cooperate with and provide the necessary information, documentation, declarations, signatures and supporting records reasonably required for MSR-GE’s applications, registrations, renewals and regulatory submissions, subject always to applicable statutory and professional requirements
Undertake the above professional duties, including nomination, registration, professional review, certification, signing and endorsement, as part of the normal duties and agreed remuneration of the position. The agreed remuneration shall be inclusive of such duties and MSR-GE’s permitted use of the employee’s professional and competency credentials, and no separate professional, licence rental, nomination, registration, retainer, signing or endorsement fees shall be payable by MSR-GE to the employee
Any official statutory, application, registration or renewal fees payable to the relevant authorities in connection with the employee’s BEM, PEPC and ST JEK registrations and competency certifications required for the position, as well as MSR-GE’s corporate registrations or project submissions, shall be borne by MSR-GE. MSR-GE shall also bear the cost of any CDM or other professional training specifically required by MSR-GE for the employee to perform his / her duties, subject to prior approval by MSR-GE
To be successful in this role, you will possess:
A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
Registration with BEM as a Professional Engineer with Practising Certificate (“PEPC”) – Mandatory
A valid ST Competent Electrical Engineer (“JEK”) competency certificate for at least 33kV – Mandatory
132kV JEK competency or above will be a significant advantage
A minimum of 12 years of relevant electrical engineering experience, preferably with substantial experience in detailed engineering, power generation, transmission, substations, utility infrastructure, renewable energy or major EPCC projects
Strong experience in low and medium voltage electrical design, protection, control and power distribution systems, with exposure to higher-voltage systems and substations highly advantageous
Experience with utility-scale solar PV, BESS, substations, power plants or TNB infrastructure will be highly advantageous
Strong knowledge of Malaysian electrical regulations, ST requirements, TNB requirements and applicable IEC and international standards
Demonstrable experience in electrical engineering design as well as construction, testing and commissioning
Experience in power system studies, including load flow, short circuit and protection coordination
Proficiency in ETAP or equivalent power system analysis software
Proficiency in AutoCAD and the ability to review detailed engineering drawings
Strong organisational and leadership skills, with the ability to handle multiple engineering deliverables simultaneously and meet tight deadlines
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to represent MSR-GE effectively in technical discussions with clients, consultants, utilities and regulatory authorities
A commitment to maintaining high engineering, safety and quality standards in all project activities
Willingness to travel interstate and attend project sites as required
