Job summary

Arup is seeking an Inspector-of-Work (Mechanical/Electrical) to supervise M&E construction on site in Malaysia. You will verify drawings, method statements and safety compliance while coordinating with consultants and contractors.

Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical or Building Services Engineering is required, with at least five years of relevant experience and registration as Inspector of Works with the Board of Engineers Malaysia. ISO/OHSAS compliance experience is a plus.

  • Minimum 5 years relevant experience in commercial building M&E installation works.
  • Experience in refurbishment or renovation projects is preferred.
  • Familiarity with UBBL, BOMBA requirements, ST regulations, SPAN requirements and relevant Malaysian Standards.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate site records and prepare progress, inspection or incident reports.
  • Ensure site safety measures are properly executed by the Contractor.
  • Review contractor method statements and verify execution on site.
  • Prepare site instructions and defect lists for completed works.

Inspector-of-Work (Mechanical/Electrical)

The Opportunity

Provide standing supervision for the construction of Mechanical and Electrical works in accordance with Project specifications, drawings and relevant Building Control Acts and Regulations.

As and when instructed by the Project Manager/Engineer, review and approve any valid overtime requisitions from the Contractor and supervise the works accordingly.

Carry out site supervision duties for the Project, including attending relevant meetings, monitoring works progress, reviewing site records, observing site safety requirements, and reporting key matters to the Project Manager/Engineer.

To manage the site office, its cleanliness, proper filing systems, seating arrangement, maintaining office security and taking charge of office equipment assigned to the Project.

Ensure instructions from the Project Manager/Engineer are clearly communicated to the Contractor and properly implemented on site.

Maintain accurate site records and prepare progress, inspection, incident or other site reports at regular intervals or as directed.

Ensure effective implementation of site safety measures are properly executed by the Contractor on site.

Review the Contractor’s proposed method statement and working procedure and to verify their proper execution on site.

Prepare site instructions and defects lists for completed works, where required.

Follow up on defect rectification works and carry out inspections to confirm satisfactory completion.

Verify that completed M&E works are properly tested, functioning as intended, and suitable for acceptance.

Coordinate day-to-day site matters with consultants, contractors and relevant project parties.

Perform other duties as instructed by the Project Manager/Engineer.

Support the firm’s compliance with ISO 9001, OHSAS 18001 and ISO 14001 requirement.

Minimum Qualification of Clerk of Work – M&E

Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical or Building Services Engineering.

Registered Inspector of Works with Board of Engineers Malaysia.

Minimum 5 years relevant experience in commercial building M&E installation works.

Experience in refurbishment or renovation projects is preferred.

Familiarity with UBBL, BOMBA requirements, ST regulations, SPAN requirements and relevant Malaysian Standards.

Skills & Competencies of Clerk of Work – M&E

Strong knowledge of ACMV, Fire Protection, Plumbing, LPG, Electrical, ELV, Lift and Escalator systems.

Practical exposure to refurbishment, retrofit or renovation works within existing operational buildings.

Ability to work effectively in fast-track construction environments and support critical project milestones.

Ability to read, interpret and verify construction drawings, specifications, shop drawings and method statements.

Strong understanding of construction sequencing and coordination between M&E, Architectural, Structural and Interior Fit-Out works.

Ability to identify potential site, quality and coordination issues early and proactively recommend solutions to avoid delays.

Good report writing, record keeping and documentation skills.

Familiarity with inspection, testing and commissioning procedures for M&E systems.

Good communication and coordination skills with consultants, contractors, suppliers and authorities.

Working knowledge of UBBL, BOMBA, ST, SPAN, DOSH and other relevant Malaysian regulations and standards.

Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and digital project documentation systems.

Self-motivated, proactive and capable of working independently with minimum supervision.

Willing to work extended hours, weekends or public holidays when required to support accelerated construction activities and project completion targets.
