Job summary

BR Metals Pte Ltd is seeking a highly motivated Refining Chemist/Engineer to help establish and operate a precious metals recovery facility in Malaysia. You will oversee laboratory setup, equipment commissioning and scale-up to full refining of gold and silver.

You will execute recovery using wet chemistry, manage material analysis for quality, melt alloys, maintain safety, and document all process parameters. Fluent English and Bahasa preferred; Mandarin a plus.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline.
  • 2–3 years hands-on laboratory experience in e-waste gold recovery or precious metals refining.

Responsibilities

  • Execute recovery and refining of Gold and Silver using wet chemical methods.
  • Process materials to maximize yield and purity.
  • Determine best methods based on material composition.
  • Perform melting of precious metal alloys.
  • Maintain recovery and refining machinery and safety procedures.
  • Document chemical usage and production records for audits.
  • Ensure cleanliness and safety of refining areas.
  • Support lab, Engineering and Office during setup, commissioning and maintenance.
  • Collaborate with Laboratory to verify material quality.
  • Liaise with Business Development on recovery potential.
  • Manage laboratory inventory for glassware, chemicals, gases and equipment.
  • Maintain accurate inventory of precious metals for accountability and security.
  • Ensure waste handling and disposal follow safety and environmental standards.

Job description

We are seeking a highly motivated and technically skilled Refining Chemist/ Engineer to assist with the establishment and operation of our precious metal recovery facility. You will transition from initial laboratory setup and equipment commissioning into full-scale recovery and refining of Gold, Silver and other precious metals.

Key responsibilities:

  • Execute the recovery and refining of Gold and Silver using wet chemical treatment, acid digestion and precipitation methods.
  • Process and refine materials containing precious metals to maximize yield and achieve high-purity output.
  • Determine the most effective recovery or refining methods based on material composition through consultation with other team members.
  • Perform melting of Gold, Silver and other precious metal alloys in accordance with established safety procedures.
  • Operate and maintain recovery and refining machineries used in the processing of precious metals.
  • Maintain proper documentation of all chemical usage, process parameters and production records for audit and inventory purposes.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and order of all recovery, melting and processing areas in accordance with workplace safety requirements and operational standards.
  • Support cross-functional teams (Engineering, Laboratory and Office) in the initial setup, commissioning and ongoing maintenance of laboratory and refining equipment.
  • Collaborate with the Laboratory Department to verify the quality of incoming materials and/or recovered/refined products.
  • Liaise with the Business Development team to provide technical input on the recovery potential of incoming materials.
  • Manage laboratory inventory including the procurement of glassware, chemicals, gases and equipment to ensure uninterrupted operations.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records of all precious metals to ensure strict accountability and security.
  • Ensure all chemical handling and waste disposal processes are conducted in compliance with workplace safety and environmental standards.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • 2-3 years of hands-on experience in a chemical laboratory specifically in the e-waste gold recovery or precious metals refining industry.
Required Skills
  • Strong knowledge of acid-base chemistry, precipitation techniques and Gold/Silver refining processes.
  • Proven experience in e-waste gold recovery or refining processes will be an advantage.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team and maintain high levels of accuracy in a production-focused environment.
  • Fluent in English & Bahasa, Mandarin is a plus.
