Our client is seeking a Purchasing Executive to join their team!
This is a solid opportunity for a procurement professional with a manufacturing background to join a well-established components company based in Simpang Ampat, Penang. In this role, you will manage end-to-end purchasing activities — from sourcing raw materials and negotiating with local and overseas vendors to managing inventory levels and resolving supply chain issues. If you are meticulous, assertive, and thrive in a fast-moving environment where your ability to source quickly and negotiate effectively makes a real difference, this role is a great fit.
What you’ll be doing?
- Sourcing materials efficiently: Identify and source required materials — including aluminium, stainless steel, and engineering plastics — within tight timeframes to support uninterrupted production operations.
- Managing daily purchasing operations: Plan, issue, and follow up on purchase orders, tracking delivery and shipment schedules to ensure materials arrive on time and in full.
- Negotiating with local and overseas vendors: Source, evaluate, and negotiate pricing and terms with both local and international suppliers to secure the best value without compromising on quality or delivery.
- Reviewing and approving procurement decisions: Analyse and compare products and services for purchase, ensuring all procurement decisions align with organisational standards and budget parameters.
- Processing purchase orders via ERP: Generate and issue purchase orders through the company's ERP system and communicate promptly and professionally with suppliers via email.
- Resolving supply chain issues: Address and resolve issues related to supply, quality, service, and invoicing with suppliers in a timely and professional manner to minimise disruption to operations.
- Maintaining optimal inventory levels: Monitor and manage safety stock levels to ensure sufficient inventory at all times, practising prudent purchasing to prevent both shortages and overstocking.
- Supporting supplier performance reviews: Assist in the annual ISO Supplier Performance Review process, evaluating suppliers against quality standards, delivery performance, and pricing criteria to ensure they continue to meet organisational expectations.
- Handling ad-hoc duties: Contribute flexibly to other procurement and operational tasks as assigned, demonstrating a can-do attitude and willingness to support the wider team.
Who are they looking for?
- Industry background: A background in the manufacturing industry is required, as familiarity with manufacturing procurement processes and material types is central to performing effectively in this role.
- Relevant purchasing experience: A minimum of 2 to 3 years of experience in a purchasing or procurement role of a similar capacity is preferred, providing the practical grounding needed to manage the full scope of responsibilities.
- Negotiation and communication skills: Strong communication and negotiation skills with suppliers — both local and overseas — are essential for securing favourable terms and maintaining productive vendor relationships.
- Interpersonal skills and attitude: A hardworking, assertive, and meticulous approach, paired with a positive attitude and strong interpersonal skills that contribute to a collaborative and efficient working environment.
- Attention to detail: A keen eye for detail and accuracy in reviewing, comparing, and approving purchasing decisions, inventory records, and supplier documentation.
We welcome applications from all individuals who are organised, driven, and ready to bring their procurement expertise to a role where precision and proactivity make a genuine difference every day.
