Job summary

STRAITS SALVAGE ENGINEERS (M) SDN BHD is seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead marine salvage, offshore, and marine engineering projects. You will plan, coordinate vessel operations, crews, subcontractors, and authorities from start to finish, ensuring safety, schedule, and budget adherence.

The role requires strong planning, leadership, and communication skills, with travel and offshore work as needed to deliver complex projects to clients.

Qualifications

  • Relevant marine/offshore project experience, preferably with project management experience.
  • Strong knowledge of marine operations, vessels, lifting operations, towing, salvage and marine equipment.
  • Experience managing marine crews, subcontractors, vessels, and offshore operations.
  • Familiarity with marine HSE requirements and risk management.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, manage, and deliver marine salvage, offshore, and marine engineering projects safely, efficiently, and within budget.
  • The Project Manager will coordinate vessel operations, marine crews, subcontractors, clients, consultants, and authorities from project commencement through completion.
  • Plan and manage marine projects from mobilisation to demobilisation and completion.
  • Prepare project schedules, method statements, work plans, risk assessments, and project budgets.
  • Coordinate marine vessels, barges, tugboats, workboats, diving teams, cranes, and other offshore equipment.
  • Manage marine salvage, towing, wreck removal, lifting, underwater, construction, and offshore support activities.
  • Supervise project personnel, subcontractors, vessel crews, and specialist contractors.
  • Ensure all works comply with approved drawings, specifications, method statements, permits, and contractual requirements.
  • Monitor project progress, productivity, costs, and resources.
  • Conduct regular site/vessel meetings and coordinate with clients, consultants, port authorities, and relevant regulatory bodies.
  • Ensure compliance with HSE requirements, including toolbox meetings, risk assessments, PTW systems, and emergency procedures.
  • Investigate incidents, near misses, and operational issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Manage procurement and mobilisation of materials, equipment, vessels, and manpower.
  • Review and approve daily progress reports, timesheets, vessel logs, and project documentation.
  • Monitor subcontractor performance and ensure contractual obligations are met.
  • Identify project risks and implement mitigation measures.
  • Prepare progress reports, cost reports, variation claims, and final project documentation.
  • Ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
  • Represent the company professionally during client and stakeholder meetings.

Requirements


  • Diploma/Degree in Marine!Engineering, Naval Architecture, Maritime Studies, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline.

  • Relevant marine/offshore project experience, preferably with project management experience.

  • Strong knowledge of marine operations, vessels, lifting operations, towing, salvage and marine equipment.

  • Experience managing marine crews, subcontractors, vessels, and offshore operations.

  • Good understanding of marine HSE requirements and risk management.

  • Strong planning, leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to read and understand technical drawings, specifications, and marine documentation.

  • Willing to travel and work offshore or at marine project sites when required.

  • Familiarity with local maritime/port regulations and international marine standards is an advantage.
