Job summary

NCL ENERGY SDN BHD invites applications for a Project Manager - Electrical Data Center to lead the end-to-end delivery of the electrical package for data center projects in Malaysia. This role requires coordinating internal teams, subcontractors and vendors to meet scope, schedule and budget, while ensuring safety and compliance with standards.

Ideal candidates have 8–12 years in construction/M&E with 3–5 years in a PM or senior leadership role and proven experience in MV/LV power distribution

Qualifications

• Minimum 8–12 years of relevant construction / M&E project experience.
• Minimum 3–5 years in a Project Manager or equivalent leadership role.
• Experience in Data Center projects is strongly preferred.
• Strong experience managing electrical packages including MV/LV systems, power distribution, switchgear and testing & commissioning.

Responsibilities

PROJECT MANAGER - ELECTRICAL DATA CENTER

The Project Manager is responsible for the overall planning, coordination, execution and delivery of the assigned Data Center Electrical Package from project commencement through testing, commissioning and handover.

The role is responsible for ensuring that the project is delivered in accordance with the approved scope, schedule, budget, quality, safety requirements and client specifications, while effectively managing internal teams, subcontractors, vendors, consultants and other project stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

1. Project Management & Execution

Lead and manage the overall execution of the assigned electrical package for Data Center projects.

Develop and maintain project execution plans, work programmes, manpower plans and construction schedules.

Monitor project progress against approved baseline schedules and ensure corrective actions are taken where delays are identified.

Coordinate site activities to ensure works are completed according to contractual requirements, approved drawings, specifications and project milestones.

Ensure adequate manpower, materials, equipment and resources are available to meet project requirements.

Identify project risks, constraints and potential delays and develop appropriate mitigation plans.

Provide regular project progress updates to the Project Director and Management.

2. Electrical Package Management

Manage electrical installation works including, where applicable:

MV/LV electrical systems

Switchgear and switchboards

Transformers

Busduct / busway systems

UPS systems

Battery systems

Cable containment and cabling

Earthing and lightning protection

Electrical monitoring / control systems

Testing and commissioning activities

Ensure all electrical works comply with approved design, technical specifications, authority requirements and Data Center standards.

Review construction drawings, shop drawings, method statements and technical submissions prior to implementation.

Coordinate technical issues with consultants, designers, vendors and subcontractors.

Coordinate and monitor Testing & Commissioning activities for electrical systems.

Ensure testing documentation, checklists and commissioning records are properly prepared and maintained.

Coordinate with the Commissioning Team, client and consultants for inspections, testing, Integrated Systems Testing and final acceptance.

Monitor closure of testing defects, punch lists and outstanding works prior to handover.

Ensure systems are ready according to project commissioning and energisation schedules.

4. Client & Stakeholder Coordination

Act as the main coordination point for the assigned package with the client, consultants, main contractor, subcontractors and vendors.

Attend project, technical, coordination and progress meetings.

Ensure all project instructions, technical issues and client requirements are properly communicated to the project team.

Maintain professional working relationships with all project stakeholders.

Escalate critical issues to the Project Director / Management where necessary.

Manage and monitor subcontractor performance including manpower, productivity, quality, safety and schedule.

Conduct regular site coordination meetings with subcontractors.

Ensure subcontractors follow approved drawings, method statements and project requirements.

Monitor material delivery schedules and vendor commitments.

Coordinate with Procurement and Contract teams on material, subcontractor and commercial matters where required.

Ensure corrective actions are implemented where subcontractor performance is below expectations.

6. Schedule & Progress Control

Work closely with the Planning / P6 team to establish and maintain the project programme.

Monitor actual progress against planned progress.

Identify schedule risks, critical activities and potential delays.

Develop recovery plans and acceleration measures when required.

Ensure all project teams understand upcoming milestones, priorities and deadlines.

Monitor project expenditure and ensure works are executed within the approved project budget.

Control unnecessary additional costs and minimise rework.

Coordinate with the Contract / Commercial team for variation works, additional scope and contractual matters.

Maintain records for variation orders, site instructions and additional works.

Support project cost forecasting and cash‑flow planning where required.

8. Quality Management

Ensure all works comply with the approved Project Quality Plan, Inspection & Test Plans and client requirements.

Work closely with QA/QC personnel to manage inspections and resolve quality issues.

Monitor NCRs, defects and quality observations and ensure timely closure.

Minimise rework through proper planning, supervision and coordination.

Ensure project documentation and quality records are properly maintained for handover.

Ensure all project activities comply with Company HSE policies, client safety requirements and applicable Malaysian regulations.

Work closely with the Safety Team to ensure safe execution of all electrical works.

Ensure Risk Assessments, Method Statements and Permit-to-Work requirements are followed.

Promote a strong safety culture among employees and subcontractors.

Immediately address unsafe conditions or practices identified on site.

10. Project Documentation & Handover

Ensure project documentation is properly maintained throughout the project lifecycle.

Coordinate preparation and submission of:

As‑built drawings

Operation & Maintenance manuals

Inspection records

Authority / statutory documentation

Ensure all outstanding works, defects and punch‑list items are completed before final project handover.

Job Requirements

Education

Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical & Electronic Engineering or related Engineering discipline.

Professional certification or registration with relevant engineering bodies will be an added advantage.

Experience

Minimum 8–12 years of relevant construction / M&E project experience.

Minimum 3–5 years in a Project Manager or equivalent leadership role.

Experience in Data Center projects is strongly preferred.

Candidates with experience in mission‑critical facilities, semiconductor plants, industrial facilities or large‑scale M&E projects may also be considered.

Strong experience managing electrical packages including MV/LV systems, power distribution, switchgear and testing & commissioning.
