Job summary

NCL ENERGY SDN BHD in Klang Valley is seeking an experienced Assistant Project Manager to oversee IT/ICT, fiber optic, and structured cabling works for Data Center projects. You will assist in project planning, coordination with engineers, subcontractors, and vendors, and ensure delivery on schedule, within budget, and meeting client requirements.

The role involves technical coordination, testing & commissioning, and handover, with site-based work in Malaysia.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in IT/engineering or related field.
• 5–8 years of IT/ICT, fiber optic, or data center project experience.
• Ability to read ICT drawings including fiber routing and cabling layouts.
• Strong communication and leadership skills for multi-stakeholder coordination.

ASSISTANT PROJECT MANAGER (DATA CENTER -IT / ICT / Fiber Optic)

Project Location: Puncak Alam / Serendah / Anywhere in Malaysia

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Assistant Project Manager in managing the delivery of IT, ICT, fiber optic, and structured cabling works for Data Center projects.

The role will assist in managing project planning, resources, subcontractors, stakeholders, technical coordination, testing & commissioning, and handover, ensuring works are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with project and client requirements.

Job Description:

1. Project Planning & Coordination

Plan and manage project scope, programme, resources, and deliverables.

Monitor project progress against the approved programme and highlight delays or risks.

Coordinate project activities with engineers, subcontractors, vendors, consultants, and site teams.

Follow up on outstanding actions, approvals, materials, technical submissions, and site requirements.

Assist in preparing progress reports, project updates, and management reports.

2. Stakeholder & Subcontractor Management

Coordinate with clients, consultants, main contractors, IT vendors, system integrators, and subcontractors.

Participate in project, progress, technical, and coordination meetings.

Monitor subcontractor performance, manpower, resources, and progress.

Follow up on issues and ensure timely resolution.

Coordinate interfaces between ICT works and other packages such as electrical, BMS, security, and ELV.

3. Technical & Project Execution

Oversee and coordinate the delivery of fiber optic, structured cabling, Data Hall, backbone, containment, rack, and ICT infrastructure.

Review drawings, specifications, method statements, and technical submissions.

Ensure site execution is aligned with approved project requirements.

Coordinate technical issues, design changes, site constraints, and interface requirements with the relevant parties.

Provide direction to Project Engineers and site teams where required.

4. Procurement & Cost Control

Support procurement planning and monitor the delivery of ICT materials and equipment.

Track long-lead items and identify potential delays.

Support the management of variations, additional works, and scope changes.

Coordinate with procurement and commercial teams on project requirements.

Support in planning and coordinating ICT testing and commissioning activities.

Coordinate with vendors, system integrators, consultants, and client teams during testing.

Monitor testing progress, certification, defects, and outstanding issues.

Ensure required testing and documentation are completed before handover.

6. Quality, Safety & Compliance

Ensure project activities comply with approved drawings, specifications, quality requirements, Data Center standards, and HSE procedures.

Coordinate with QA/QC and site teams on inspections and quality issues.

Monitor and follow up on defects, NCRs, and corrective actions.

Ensure project documentation and records are properly maintained.

7. Handover & Close-Out

Coordinate preparation and completion of project handover documentation.

Ensure as-built drawings, test reports, certification records, cable schedules, rack layouts, and other ICT documentation are completed.

Monitor punch-list and defect closure.

Support client inspection, acceptance, and project close-out.

Requirement:

Bachelor’s Degree in IT, Computer Engineering, Telecommunications, or related field

Min 5–8 years of relevant experience in IT / ICT, fiber optic, structured cabling, telecommunications, or Data Center projects.

Proven experience in Data Center ICT / fiber optic / structured cabling projects is highly preferred.

Strong ability to read, interpret, review, and coordinate technical drawings, including ICT layouts, fiber optic routing, containment, rack layouts, schematics, and cabling drawings.

Good knowledge of fiber optic systems, structured cabling, splicing, termination, OTDR, and cable testing.

Experience coordinating subcontractors, vendors, system integrators, consultants, and multiple project stakeholders.

Strong communication, coordination, problem-solving, and leadership skills, with the ability to manage multiple activities and fast-track schedules.

Willing to be site-based in Klang Valley and/or other project locations and support critical installation, testing, commissioning, and handover activities when required.
