TECO Electric & Machinery in Malaysia seeks a Project Engineer (IT) to support planning, installation, testing, and handover of IT/ELV systems for data center projects. You will coordinate fiber optic cabling, structured cabling, and IT system integration with electrical and BMS packages.

The Project Engineer (IT) is responsible for supporting the planning, coordination, installation, testing, and handover of IT and ELV systems in data center construction projects. This includes fiber optic infrastructure, structured cabling, network systems, and integration with critical facilities systems. The role ensures all IT works are delivered in accordance with design specifications, project schedule, data center standards, and operational requirements.
Job Description:
1. Planning
Support planning and execution of IT infrastructure works for data center projects
Review IT design drawings, structured cabling layouts, and technical specifications
Coordinate fiber optic, backbone, and horizontal cabling scope across all areas (data halls, MMR, MDF/IDF)
Liaise with consultants, IT vendors, system integrators, and internal teams for technical alignment
Ensure compliance with data center standards and cabling best practices
2. Site Execution & Coordination
Coordinate daily site activities for IT, fiber optic, and structured cabling works
Liaise with subcontractors, suppliers, IT vendors, system integrators, and site teams
Monitor progress and report updates to Project Manager / Senior Engineer
Ensure installation follows approved drawings, method statements, and project requirements
Coordinate fiber optic works including cabling, splicing, testing, and patching
Coordinate structured cabling works including containment, backbone, and data hall cabling
Ensure proper cable routing, labeling, and documentation in accordance with data center standards
Support testing activities, cable labeling, and as-built documentation preparation
Coordinate integration between IT systems and other packages (electrical, BMS, security/ELV)
Identify and resolve site issues, clashes, and coordination gaps with stakeholders
3. Technical & Documentation
Review shop drawings, method statements, and material submissions for IT systems
Prepare and maintain site reports, progress updates, and inspection records
Track cable schedules, labeling schemes, and asset documentation
Support preparation of as-built drawings and IT documentation (rack layouts, patching schedules)
Ensure proper documentation of all installation and testing records
Coordinate testing and commissioning activities for IT and fiber optic systems
Support fiber optic testing (OTDR, power meter), cable certification, and network validation
Coordinate with IT vendors and system integrators for system testing and integration
Support end-to-end testing including connectivity, redundancy, and performance verification
Ensure systems meet data center operational and reliability requirements
5. Quality, Safety & Compliance
Ensure IT works comply with project specifications, data center standards, and best practices
Support QA/QC inspections and ensure proper labeling, routing, and installation quality
Ensure compliance with site safety rules and procedures during installation works
Support implementation of quality and safety plans on site
6. Handover & Close-Out
Support final system handover to client and operations team
Prepare and compile as-built drawings, test reports, and IT documentation
Ensure completeness of rack layouts, patching records, and cable documentation
Support final inspection, client acceptance, and project close-out
Assist in defect rectification during Defect Liability Period (DLP)
Requirement:
Bachelor’s Degree in IT, Computer Engineering, Telecommunications, or related field
2–5 years of experience in IT infrastructure / ELV / data center projects
Knowledge of structured cabling systems, fiber optics, and data center IT infrastructure
Familiar with fiber optic installation, splicing, and testing (OTDR, certification tools)
Understanding of data center environments (MDF/IDF, racks, containment, patching)
Experience coordinating with IT vendors, system integrators, and contractors
Ability to read and interpret IT drawings (cabling layouts, rack layouts, network diagrams)
Good coordination, communication, and problem-solving skills
Able to work in fast-paced construction site environment
Fast learner and adapt to new tasks and environments
