PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
The Project Engineer is responsible for the technical execution of data center commissioning projects, with a focus on load bank testing at all integrated systems test (IST) levels (L3 to L5). The role ensures that all electrical systems, UPS, generators and cooling infrastructure are validated to specification before handover.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plan and execute load bank commissioning tests (L3 / L4 / L5 IST) in accordance with client test scripts.
- Supervise the deployment, connection and operation of Rentaload load banks on data center sites.
- Interpret and review single-line diagrams, electrical schematics and test scripts prior to mobilization.
- Coordinate with client commissioning managers, MEP contractors and LCM teams during IST execution.
- Monitor power quality parameters (kW, kVAR, PF, voltage, frequency) during testing and report deviations.
- Prepare and submit commissioning test reports, punch lists and handover documentation.
- Support the preparation of commercial quotations and technical proposals for new projects.
- Maintain equipment in good working order; conduct pre-mobilization checks and post-demobilisation inspections.
- Liaise with warehouse team regarding equipment logistics, transport and readiness.
- Comply with HSE requirements and Rentaload QHSE procedures on all project sites.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in electrical engineering, commissioning or MEP project execution.
- Demonstrated experience in data centre commissioning (IST, BMS, UPS, generators, CRAC/CRAH).
- Familiarity with load bank testing procedures and power quality measurement.
- Knowledge of IEC electrical standards applicable to power distribution and testing.
- Valid Electrical Competency Certificate (Chargeman / Grade) issued by Suruhanjaya Tenaga is an advantage.
TECHNICAL SKILLS
- Electrical engineering fundamentals (three-phase power, protection, distribution)
- Data centre commissioning
- Load bank operation and power quality measurement
- Reading and interpreting electrical schematics and single-line diagrams (SLDs)
- UPS, generator and cooling system (CRAC/CRAH) knowledge
- Power quality analysis: kW, kVAR, power factor, voltage, frequency

- AutoCAD — electrical drawings and site layouts
- Microsoft Word and PowerPoint — reports and presentations
- Microsoft Excel — data logging, test result tracking and reporting
- ERP and project tracking tools (advantageous)

TRAVEL & MOBILITY
This is a field-based role. Regular travel to data centre project sites across Malaysia and the broader APAC region is required. The preferred base location is Johor Bahru; however, Kuala Lumpur is also acceptable. Candidates must be willing to travel on short notice for project mobilisations.
