Cablex Pty Ltd in Malaysia invites a Production Engineer to establish robust manufacturing processes, develop tooling and fixtures, and build local engineering capability as operations scale. You will collaborate with the Australia-based Engineering Manager and teams to deliver hands-on engineering support on site in Malaysia.
The role focuses on leading complex technical delivery, resolving manufacturing challenges and driving efficient, compliant assembly across electro-mechanical and cable
Help build and mature a growing manufacturing operation in Malaysia while delivering smarter, more efficient outcomes in a highly regulated aerospace and defence environment.
Based in Malaysia, this is an opportunity to join a growing manufacturing operation in the early stages of its development. We are seeking an experienced, practical and improvement-focused Production Engineer who can establish robust manufacturing processes, develop tooling, jigs and fixtures, and help build the site's engineering capability as operations scale.
The Engineering Manager and broader engineering team are based in Australia, so you will collaborate closely across locations while providing experienced, hands-on engineering support on site in Malaysia. Working alongside an existing local engineer, you will lead complex technical delivery, solve manufacturing challenges and help strengthen local engineering capability as the operation grows.
Identify and implement manufacturing improvements that enhance productivity, quality, safety and delivery.
Develop and refine manufacturing methods, jigs, fixtures, tooling and processes.
Optimise the use of manufacturing and test equipment, reducing downtime and waste.
Support electro-mechanical, electrical, wire harness and cable assembly operations.
Partner with production teams to resolve build issues and establish practical, repeatable and compliant assembly processes.
Support new product introduction and process changes through structured change control.
Contribute to process controls, root cause investigations and corrective actions.
Manage multiple improvement and tooling activities to agreed time, cost and quality expectations.
A degree or equivalent experience in mechatronics, mechanical, electrical or a related engineering discipline.
Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, equipment, tooling and assembly methods.
Experience developing and implementing jigs, fixtures or manufacturing tools.
Sufficient depth of experience to provide local technical leadership, independently resolve complex manufacturing issues and support the development of engineering capability in Malaysia.
A hands-on approach and the ability to work effectively with shop-floor production teams.
The ability to collaborate effectively with an Engineering Manager and team based in Australia.
Strong analytical and structured problem-solving skills.
Professional written and verbal English communication skills.
Experience in aerospace, defence, electronics or another highly regulated manufacturing environment.
Experience with electrical or electro-mechanical assemblies, including wire harness or cable assembly.
Working knowledge of IPC-A-620/IPC-WHMA, AS9100, DEF-STAN or similar standards.
Experience supporting new product introduction, industrialisation or process validation.
CAD capability relevant to tooling, fixture or process concept development.
Exposure to quality tools such as APQP, Process FMEAs, SPC, MSA, 8D or PPAP.
You are organised, methodical and detail-focused, with a practical engineering mindset and the ability to influence across teams. You are comfortable working across mechanical and electrical disciplines, managing competing priorities and turning improvement opportunities into reliable manufacturing outcomes.
