Quectel Wireless Solutions Penang Sdn. Bhd. is seeking a senior strategist to drive IoT opportunity discovery and market validation in our Penang hub. You will shape business cases, lead cross-functional incubation, and engage external partners to accelerate growth.

The role requires a strong background in corporate strategy, market research, and financial modeling within a tech context. Excellent communication and stakeholder influence are essential for success.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Electronics/EE/CS or related field; MBA or advanced degree.
• 5+ years in a strategy role within a technology context (corporate strategy, VC, consulting, product management, BD).
• Proven market analysis, new venture development, or early-stage innovation project management.
• IoT technology stack knowledge, competitive landscape, and market drivers.
• Strong analytical and financial modeling with ability to build business cases from scratch.
• Excellent strategic thinking and ability to handle ambiguity; strong stakeholder influence.

Responsibilities

• Opportunity Discovery & Landscape Analysis: scan IoT ecosystem for trends, competitors, and whitespace.
• Market Validation & Feasibility: run primary research, interviews, analyses, and prototype testing.
• Strategic Incubation & Business Building: define product-market fit, MVPs, pilots with early customers.
• Ecosystem Engagement: build external network for partnerships and innovation radar.
• Strategic Communication: present findings and recommendations to senior leadership.

Key Responsibilities (IOT)

1. Opportunity Discovery & Landscape Analysis:
   • Conduct continuous and proactive scanning of the IoT ecosystem to identify emerging technologies, new business models, competitor moves, and untapped market whitespaces.
   • Develop insightful research and synthesis reports on long-term trends, disruptions, and potential threats to the current business.
2. Market Validation & Feasibility Assessment:
   • Design and execute rigorous validation processes for new opportunity hypotheses, utilizing primary customer research, expert interviews, competitive analysis, and prototype testing.
   • Develop robust financial models and business cases to assess the market size, potential ROI, and strategic value of new opportunities.
3. Strategic Incubation & Business Building:
   • For opportunities that pass validation, lead the initial incubation phase. This includes defining initial product-market fit, building minimal viable products (MVPs) or prototypes, and running pilot programs with early customers.
   • Coordinate cross-functional resources (e.g., engineering, design, product, finance) to accelerate the incubation process.
4. Ecosystem Engagement:
   • Build and leverage a network of external contacts (startups, academics, industry experts, venture capitalists) to serve as a radar for emerging innovation and potential partnership opportunities.
5. Strategic Communication:
   • Clearly and persuasively communicate findings, recommendations, and progress to senior leadership to inform strategic investment decisions.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Electronics/Electrical/Communication Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field; MBA or advanced degree.
• 5+ years of experience in a strategy role such as corporate strategy, venture capital, management consulting, product management, or business development within a technology context.
• Proven experience in market analysis, new venture development, or managing early-stage innovation projects.
• Deep understanding of the IoT technology stack, competitive landscape, and key market drivers.
• Superior analytical and financial modeling skills, with experience building business cases from the ground up.
• Exceptional strategic thinking and ability to thrive in ambiguity, developing structure around poorly defined problems.
• Outstanding communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to influence senior stakeholders.
• Experience taking a new product or business from concept through to launch.
