Overview

Principle DBA (PostgreSQL) – WFH from anywhere Malaysia

Must: Malaysian

(Need to travel to Singapore office once in a while if required)

Years of experience: 10+ years (If only 5+ yrs hands on PostgreSQL DBA experience, can be considered as well)

Responsibilities

• Define the enterprise-wide database architecture strategy and roadmap in alignment with business and IT goals.
• Lead the design, implementation, and governance of scalable, secure, and high-performance data platforms using technologies such as Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and cloud-native DBaaS (e.g., AWS RDS, Azure SQL, Google Cloud SQL).
• Drive automation, observability, and self-healing database infrastructure using CI/CD pipelines, and advanced monitoring tools.
• Serve as a technical advisor to senior leadership, influencing decisions on data strategy, cloud adoption, security, and compliance.
• Architect robust high availability (HA), disaster recovery (DR), replication, and backup strategies to support 24/7 operations.
• Establish and enforce best practices for database development, deployment, monitoring, and lifecycle management across teams.
• Lead database incident response and root cause analysis for major production issues, and implement permanent corrective actions.
• Mentor and guide senior and junior engineers; foster a culture of knowledge sharing, continuous improvement, and technical excellence.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including application development, cybersecurity, DevOps, and business intelligence to ensure data readiness and performance.
• Evaluate and introduce new technologies and methodologies to improve data reliability, performance, and cost-efficiency.

Job Requirements

• Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• 10+ years of progressive experience in database engineering/administration with significant experience in enterprise or mission-critical systems.
• Proven expertise in both relational and NoSQL databases, including performance tuning, sharding, and distributed data management.
• Advanced proficiency in scripting and automation (SQL, PL/SQL, T-SQL, Python, Bash, PowerShell) and experience with tools like Terraform, Ansible, or similar IaC frameworks.
• Strong experience with cloud platforms and architectures, including hybrid and multi-cloud database design, Azure managed MS SQL, MySQL, MongoDB and PostgreSQL.
• Deep knowledge of database security, compliance frameworks (e.g., SOC2, ISO 27001), data retention, and audit controls.
• Demonstrated leadership in delivering database modernization, cloud migration, and digital transformation initiatives.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to business and executive stakeholders.
• Experience in logistics, supply chain, or manufacturing domains is a strong advantage
