August 2027 Start | Kinabalu International School, Sabah, Malaysian Borneo
Kinabalu International School (KIS) is seeking an excellent, enthusiastic and forward-thinking Primary Teacher to join our Primary School from August 2027.
We are looking for more than an effective classroom practitioner. We want a teacher who is intellectually curious, ambitious for every child, reflective about their practice and excited by the opportunity to contribute to a close-knit international school community at an important stage in its development.
At KIS, great teachers know their students well. They create classrooms that are purposeful, engaging, inclusive and academically challenging. They inspire curiosity, nurture independence, develop confident communicators and encourage children to question, investigate and think for themselves.
Just as importantly, they are colleagues who collaborate generously, contribute beyond their own classroom and want to play an active role in the wider life of the school.
This is an exciting opportunity to join KIS as we continue to embed and develop our newly launched KIS Primary Curriculum, combining the strongest elements of the English National Curriculum with interdisciplinary learning and inquiry-based approaches to learning.
We are seeking a teacher who will embrace this direction, contribute meaningfully to its continued development and work collaboratively with colleagues, curriculum coordinators and school leaders to create exceptional learning experiences for our students.
The successful candidate will be an excellent primary classroom practitioner with strong curriculum knowledge, a secure understanding of how children learn and a genuine enthusiasm for primary education.
We welcome applications from experienced primary teachers who are confident working across different year groups and key stages, and who bring creativity, flexibility and a commitment to continuous professional growth.
We are particularly interested in teachers who:
Above all, we are looking for a teacher who believes that exceptional primary education is about more than the acquisition of knowledge. It is about developing the curiosity, confidence, character and skills that enable young people to become engaged, capable and thoughtful learners.
Applicants must hold a recognised teaching qualification and have a minimum of two years' demonstrable success in teaching. Excellent spoken and written English skills are essential.
KIS is at an exciting stage in the development of its Primary School.
Our newly launched KIS Primary Curriculum builds upon the academic rigour and established foundations of the English National Curriculum while introducing a more connected, purposeful and engaging approach to learning.
Our ambition is to ensure that students develop strong knowledge and essential skills while also recognising the connections between subjects, asking meaningful questions, articulating their understanding and applying their learning in authentic contexts.
Central to this approach are:
Our approach is closely connected to Vision 28 and particularly Goal 9, which reflects our commitment to embedding the school and its educational experiences within our unique local context.
We believe that living and learning in Sabah, Malaysian Borneo, presents extraordinary educational opportunities. From the exceptional biodiversity and natural environment surrounding us to the rich cultural heritage, traditions and communities of Sabah, we want students to recognise, appreciate and actively engage with the world immediately around them.
For the successful candidate, this represents an opportunity not simply to deliver an established curriculum, but to play an active role in shaping, embedding and strengthening an ambitious and evolving approach to primary education.
We are particularly interested in teachers who will embrace this journey, contribute ideas, collaborate with curriculum coordinators and colleagues, and help translate our curriculum vision into exceptional classroom practice.
Our approach to education and to working together is shaped by the KIS Way.
We want our students and our staff to be Curious, Collaborative, Reflective, Creative, Courageous and Respectful.
These are not simply words displayed around our school. They describe the culture we are continuing to build: one in which people ask questions, share ideas, learn from experience, take sensible risks, support one another and treat others with kindness and respect.
The KIS Way is central to our evolving Primary Curriculum, informing not only what students learn but also how they learn, how they interact with others and how they develop as individuals.
We are therefore looking for a teacher who will model these values as strongly as they teach their students, and who understands that the most effective primary education combines academic excellence with the development of character, confidence and a genuine love of learning.
