Job Description
Context:
Our T&D Power Systems team supports utilities, developers, and investors in addressing grid
integration challenges for generation and transmission projects, including renewable energy,
battery storage, and HVDC interconnections.
You will be part of a global team delivering power system studies across Asia-Pacific, Europe, the
Middle East, and Africa, contributing to both project execution and technical development.
Regular working days: Mon-Fri., 8 hours/day, 5 days/week
Responsibilities:
- Perform steady-state and dynamic power system studies, including load flow, contingency, short-circuit, RMS stability, voltage stability and reactive powerassessments.
- Develop and maintain network models using PSS®E and/or DIgSILENT PowerFactory
- Define study assumptions, scenarios, and contingencies.
- Interpret study results, identify network constraints and stability risks, and developtechnically justified mitigation measures.
- Conduct complex technical assessments and develop specialist solutions for powersystem challenges, including generator and converter model validation, dynamic modeltuning, stability enhancement strategies, and mitigation of network constraints.
- Investigate model convergence, initialization and dynamic performance issues, identifyroot causes, and implement robust technical solutions.
2. Grid integration & renewable projects
- Contribute to grid connection studies for: solar, wind, and battery energy storagesystems (BESS), HVDC and other converter-based technologies
- Assess system impacts of inverter-based resources and propose mitigation measures
- Lead the technical execution of studies from project initiation through final reportingwith a high degree of independence and accountability.
- Coordinate with internal teams for inputs, modelling, and validation
- Review and validate work from junior engineers where required
- Lead selected study tasks and provide technical guidance to junior engineers
- Demonstrate a proactive approach to identifying problems, proposing practicalsolutions, testing them, and driving their implementation through to resolution.
- Exercise sound engineering judgement by critically reviewing modelling assumptions, challenging simulation results where appropriate, and ensuring technical quality andconsistency throughout the study.
4. Reporting & client interaction
- Prepare clear and structured technical reports and deliverables
- Present results and conclusions to internal teams and clients
- Support technical discussions with clients when required
- Contribute to internal knowledge sharing and technical improvement
- Stay updated on developments in grid integration and power system analysis
- Support the development and adoption of internal tools, automation scripts and AI-assisted workflows to improve engineering efficiency and study quality.
Qualifications
Experience
- Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering (Power Systems or Power SystemStudy).
- Typically 8-10+ years of experience in power system studies, either in Malaysia or Global
- Experience in grid connection, transmission planning, or renewable integrationprojects/study
- Strong knowledge and experience working with TNB network and gridrequirements
- Experience liaising and collaborating with TNB, GSO, and Single Buyer is highlydesirable
- Involvement in any ST schemes (LSS, CRESS, Selco, BESS) is an advantage
- Exposure to both utility/TSO and developer-driven projects is an advantage
- Strong experience in load flow, contingency, short-circuit, power quality, voltage stabilityand RMS stability studies.
- Demonstrated expertise in developing, tuning, calibrating and validating dynamic powersystem models, with the ability to troubleshoot complex modelling issues and delivertechnically credible simulations suitable for engineering decision-making.
- Ability to define study scope and assumptions, structure analyses independently, interpret and challenge results
- Ability to critically assess simulation credibility by questioning modelling assumptions, validating results against engineering principles, and distinguishing modelling artefactsfrom genuine system behaviour.
- Practical experience with renewable energy integration (solar, wind, BESS), HVDC orconverter-based resources
- Strong understanding of transmission planning criteria, grid codes, and power systemoperating principles.
Tools
- Advanced hands-on experience with PSS®E and/or DIgSILENT Power Factory, includinglarge-scale network modelling, automation workflows, and dynamic modelimplementation.
- Ability to work with large-scale network models
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and within international teams
- Ability to work effectively under tight project deadlines while maintaining high technicalquality across multiple concurrent assignments.
- Experience in task leadership, study coordination, and mentoring junior engineers is anadvantage
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to presentcomplex technical concepts clearly to clients and multidisciplinary teams.
