Mahkota Medical Centre is seeking a Junior Perfusionist to assist the Senior Perfusionist in leading clinical care within the Operating Theatre's Cardiac team. The role involves operating heart-lung machine during cardiac surgery and supporting other specialties with device-based circulation management.
Requirements include a Perfusion Certification with annual practicing certificate and 2–4 years of CPB experience in a cardiac centre.
The Junior Perfusionist takes full responsibility to assist the Senior Perfusionist for the clinical leadership, resource management and organization of the patient care provision within the Operating Theatre specifically the Cardiac team. In addition to the operation of the heart-lung machine during cardiac surgery, the perfusionist often functions in supportive roles for other medical specialties in operating mechanical devices to assist in the conservation of blood and blood products during surgery, and provide extended, short and long term support of the patient's circulation both inside and outside of the operating room environment.
Key responsibilities
Perform safe performance and management of Extracorporeal Circulation/Cardiopulmonary Support, Counterpulsation Support (IABP), Circulatory Support/Ventricular Assistance (VAD), and Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (EMCO)
Manage Blood Conservation Techniques, Autotransfusion, Myocardial Preservation, and Anticoagulation and Hematological Monitoring/Analysis
Perform Blood Gas and Blood Chemistry Monitoring/Analysis, Induction of Hypothermia and Hyperthermia therapy with Reversal, Hemodilution and Hemoconcentration
Administer medications, anesthetic agents, Blood and Blood components via CPB circuit
Operate extracorporeal circulation equipment during any medical situation where it is necessary to support or replace the patient's cardiopulmonary circulatory functions
Carry out day-to-day OT routine work and surgery, and assist in cardiac operations assuming responsibility for assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care
Ensure periodic routine maintenance, service procedures, and operational checkout and preventive maintenance is performed on all equipment used to accomplish duties as recommended by the manufacturer or hospital guidelines
Maintain proper perfusion records for the purpose of compliance, benchmarking and standardization
Perform call duties after office hours to all patients that require emergency cardiothoracic or cardiology services
Coordinate, communicate and cooperate with other health professionals in regard to patients treatment, care, progress and recovery
Requirement
Perfusion Certified with valid annual practicing certificate
Preferably with minimum 2 to 4 years of working experience with cardiopulmonary bypass equipment in an established cardiac centre
Past experience in operating theatre, intensive or coronary care unit will be added advantage
Proficient in computer software application
